Forum MVP arm Posted April 14, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 14, 2010 At least not everyone's morose on tax day! In few year's time, with some ingenuity and hard work, I'm sure we can get to the place where over half of all Americans look forward to April 15! According to an AP report on April 7, 2010, 47% of U.S. householders will pay no federal income tax for 2009. On April 14, 2010, Gallup polling reports that 45% of Americans say that the amount of tax they pay is "about right". Currently, 10% of Americans pay almost 75% of all income tax. "The bottom 40 percent, on average, make a profit from the federal income tax, meaning they get more money in tax credits than they would otherwise owe in taxes. For those people, the government sends them a payment." (AP, April 7, 2010)
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted April 14, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 14, 2010 Things were simpler and tax rates lower in 1913. We're coming up on the Centennial for the Form 1040.

Looks to me from that form that 95% must not have paid taxes in 1913, $20,000 was a lot of money in those days. That does look like a nice simple form, however. Why must the government always take simple concepts and make them so complicated ?
