kieu~*
The City Winery is a real cool place in SoHo.Recently saw Indie singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur there.Going to see Jorma/Bromberg there soon 2.Thanks for posting this Kimmie.....looks like another adventure in the city is in the cards.Peace. For sure! Yeah, it's a really nice place in terms of wine bars, and great sound. I saw a friend perform there, Michelle Shocked, and she rocked it! So a few of us are going for the first night (Thursday) showing and we'll be getting a table. Anyone who wants to join us, feel free to send a note. Should be fun! I'm hoping folks will start dancing...
Forum MVP Grateful_Bruno Posted April 8, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 8, 2010 pre-ordered, and attended the original show - can't wait! Stoked! according to an email I received from Dead.net today... it is being shown at screenings at many theaters across the country before the packages get mailed out. In my area, it is playing 4/15/10 at the Little Theater, Rochester, NY. hoping I can go check it out!
Forum MVP John A Posted April 9, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 9, 2010 There's a screening here in SF at the Balboa Theater. I believe this is using digital projection technology. I wonder what they can do to make DVD grade resolution look good on a full size theater screen. I saw the Grateful Dead Movie in the Sony Metreon's digital projection theater when it was remastered and re-released some years back. It looked breathtaking. Forum MVP Teacher Matt Posted April 9, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 9, 2010 Great show... showing at theaters all across the country... Chuck Vegas and myself are very sad that it will not be played in Vegas... But with my invention of the time machine I think Chuck and I are just going to travel back to 89 and go to the show again.... what the hey
Forum MVP John A Posted April 9, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted April 9, 2010 Maybe we should hit that John? Bad timing. I get back from Santa Barbara on the 18th (little trip with the family as kids have Spring Break next week) and have a wine dinner in Sonoma on the 20th. Too much to try to pack in. I'm going to the Mystic on the 14th though, the night before we leave for SB. You going to the DSO show that night?

Dancer'sChoice
Totally agree! The DVD is fantastic. The band was totally on that night. It really reminded me how much I miss Jer. I have a question, though. On the rack behind and slightly to the left of Phil, there is a spinning cylinder that appears to have 2 square holes in it. It spins faster or slower, but the speed at which it moves doesn't seem to be related to the music. Can anyone explain to me what that is?

It spins faster or slower, but the speed at which it moves doesn't seem to be related to the music. Can anyone explain to me what that is? This is a Leslie speaker, most commonly seen linked to any Hammond B-3 organ. It's a speaker that spins at various rates, controlled by the musicians foot pedal. It's what gives the vibrato sound to the organ. I believe Phil used these from time to time on his bass. If I am off base on the any of the above points, those more in the know are free to correct me.
Rusty the Scoob
You're right that it's a Leslie but it's way more likely to have been hooked up to Brent's B3 and set there so Phil and/or the drummers could hear it. They were all over the stage in those days. There is nothing like the sound of a real Leslie.
