I went to the show. Despite venue security great fun was had. Highlights for me were crazy fingers, china>rider, and dark star>stella blue. It was especially nice to get to hear JK sing a ballad. I still find it difficult to understand why Bobby has to sing 70% of the songs but I guess that's up to them. It was a pleasure to see some friends and dance for a night. Can't wait for some DSO!!!

Assuming he sang Sugaree it's actually exactly 50 percent...

Vinny,

It's not as simply as just doing the math to figure out vocal percentages with Furthur.....

Some of the Bobby covers of JG vocals are just plain painfull & you must use a 1.5 factor (IMO) ,so that made the night seem heavy on the Bobby vocals!

Before everyone gets thier shorts all bunched up.....I had a great time @ the show!

The highlights were Crazy Fingers>Cumberland Blues(set I)

China Cat /Dark Star>Stella Blue /Unbroken Chain (set II)

And of course hangin' with DSO friends old & new!

Peace,

Rob

oh yes I know... Sugaree is one of them... I still enjoyed the one I heard him sing in New Hampshire... but we all know the song would transcend to a higher place with John singing... and Bob being able to focus solely on playing would be a reason for that too, he does some amazing stuff on Sugaree... same situation with Phil not being able to do his thing on Eyes when he sings it..

Really want to hear this Crazy Fingers>Cumberland

Getting to AC was crazy last night. Finding parking in that garage was crazy. You could tell a lot of people were having trouble just by looking at everyone getting situated. Definitely sold out. They didn't start till 8:20 which was unusual compared to the other start times but i guess things were really hectic all around. Security was pretty tight on heads but i didn't have any problems.

Passenger - Sounded tight and extended. Nothing extraordinary but a good strong, fast paced opener. JK has awesome lead lines, and bobby was creating some cool rhythms to go with them, and phil was just thundering away.

Next time you see me - cool selection, always like to hear Pig Pen tunes. Sounded all right though, little honky tonkish.

King Bee - another very cool selection, got very bluesy and soulful but nothing really clicked. still a pleasure to hear though.

Hell in a Bucket - Surprisingly it took a tune like this to really get the band cooking. Had some great energy and really got the crowd and band pumped. Bobby was hitting them high falsettos for sure and JK and Jeff were jamming hard. Was starting to really feel the Bobby dominated set though and was dying for JK to step to the mic.

Crazy Fingers - Soooooo sweet, highlight of the first set for sure. JK sounded so good vocally, and the whole band had a great jam at the end. Had a very smooth transition into

Cumberland Blues - We were really cookin and smoking by this point. The boys sounded real solid and they can really navigate this song now. Got some cool extended jams that allowed for some more expression and freedom they definitely take advantage of that. Second favorite song of the set.

Magnolia Mountain - It was nice to hear JK open his mouth again but it could have been a better song. Then again, I do like to hear JK sing songs that Jerry never had the opportunity to do. Anyways, sounded good to my ears but it was the only song i sat down for the whole night.

Sugaree - Despite bobby's vocals, the band tore this song up. Bobby and Phil sound so good on the rhythm section and JK and Jeff have such a good chemistry on those solos. Had some great climaxes but didn't top the Ithaca one. Third favorite of the set though.

Set break

Lost Sailor - Sounded very cool and psychedelic, had some cool wahh sounds going on. JK did a great job on those lead lines, sounded a good bit like Jer. Very strong song that lead to an even stronger

Saint of Circumstance - had a little trouble with the communicating i felt but overall a very impassioned song. "The sure don't know" part was really on fire and everyone was on their feet dancing. Definitely a great version of these two songs.

China Cat Sunflower - so funky. such a rhythmical song and everyone was shaking their money maker. Awesome version and JK led it the entire way although everyone in the band definitely came together supplied great parts. Everyone was listening to each other and jamming appropriately. Great ending jam into

I Know you rider - Vocals sounded good especially with the back up singers. Sounds more warm and open. After this song i felt like the second set already topped the first. A great pairing of these songs as well. They have an extended ending on it now and had short jam into

The wheel - I gotta thank those back up singers. they do a great job on the harmonies and creating more balance in the vocal parts. Sounded real good and sweet. Phil was grooving heavily on this one and Jeff has some real nice melodies to accompany. Had cool jam afterwards that had me guessing all the way until the dropped the big boy.

Dark Star - Sounded strong, didn't get too far out but they hit some real cool grooves and swings. Good communication. I like how they split up the verses. No complaints here, melded comfortably into

Stella Blue - Highlight of the second set. So serene and beautiful. Had my eyes closed for probably 70% of the set until the end of this song. Got the most applause of the whole night i felt. Give it a listen, great version, and JK poured his heart out,

Unbroken Chain - Great Jams, Phil really loves to play this nowadays. This band can really jam and navigate this tune. They get really intricate and out there. incredibly jazzy and i really dug it.

One more saturday night - great set closer, Bobby was kicking it and everyone got in a frenzy. Strong version.

End Set 2

Encore: Gloria - Awesome encore, crowd was loving it. Lots of energy and felt strong. It was nice to see Bobby still had it in him to go the distance.

End of Show

Overall - Second set was absolutely relentless. Enjoyed the selections in the setlist. Felt that John was more in the back in terms of vocal selections though even though he brought the best songs of both sets. Felt pretty Bobby dominated but I gotta say he sounded real good out there. Could dig the Pig Pen selections. First set was good but it took them a few songs to get anything really substantial or noteworthy going. Felt pretty jazzy throughout the whole night. Drummers sounded real good and locked in on the jams. Jeff is the man on keys, i absolutely love his work. Bobby and Phil sound as good as ever and JK brings it as always, just wish they gave him a little more time to shine on the mic.

Out of the three shows i attended this tour (Ithaca, First Radio City Night, and AC) Radio City was my favorite. Best song of the tour was the Ithaca Dew. This show was about even with Ithaca but i think Ithaca edged it out because of the dew and sugaree. so in order 1. First Radio City 2. Ithaca 3. AC. This band has made some incredible progress and look forward to the music of the future . I'll catch them at the end of June but I got JGB with Melvin Seals and Stu Allen in March and DSO in May and and early June first, so i'll be waiting in vain until then trying to contain my excitement. Have fun out there in chicago.

i have to agree. she must be at least 50 and she is looking great. i think touring would be very hard for him without her.
