daytrip16
That festival went under and reappeared as a much smaller, local fest like it use to be. It focuses on local acts, arts and foods for the Traverse City area. I wouldn't expect this fest to appear at the standard it was in 2007 BUT damn that was fun. DSO use to play MI around the holidays. For two years, they played a NYE run that came through Detroit and ended at the Muralt in Indy. Those were fun runs......Royal Oak Music Theater is good Venue for DSO. Then they started playing the Intersection in Grand Rapids. I wonder what happen to that gig. Forum MVP VincentPuleo Posted February 27, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 27, 2010 This was a lot of fun...perfect weather, awesome lineup, and the locale was incredible. I think Furthur may be a little too much for them, but I sure would like to see DSO there again. Never heard of that festival but that has to be the best DSO Touch Of Grey I have ever heard. Wow. Forum MVP bs69 Posted February 28, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 28, 2010 Like Bogarts? or Alpine? The new pavilion over at Riverbend would be perfect.
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted February 28, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 28, 2010 I thought Dunegrass '07 was one of the cleanest, kindest, best-run festies ever. Really, even more so than the Ledges as far as pleasant, respectful crowds. Having Cornmeal and Peter Rowan also there helped make it just exactly perfect. I remember there was talk about it moving to a more-or-less nearby closed air force base for future years, and the understandable concern was that such a change would utterly ruin the scene. If downsizing helps keep it going and preserves the ambiance, good for them! They deserve all good things for the quality production and wonderful vibe they had going on. But, and now I'm just sounding whiney, that festival was 4 hours away from the Detroit area. So my whine has now changed to why can't DSO or Furthur play the Detroit area? Royal Oak Music Theater is a great location. The place I first seen them at I think they have outgrown, the Magic Bag. Plus the smoke in there was horrible. Michigan smoke free in May!!!! Finally. Except casinos lol.
