Muddy Waters
Quick question for Rob as he may have been living in or around the East Coast at that time and is a bit of a archive historian or any other old school easties that might have been at this show.. I just go turned on to this and I was blown away..the whole set list is amazing particularly the cover of Dylan's "Going Going Gone..and China Doll solo Acoustic into Ripple.. Question what type of gear did Garcia have on stage that night..Guitar, electronics, etc...did have more than one Acoustic on stage with him? Thanks in advance for anyone with knowlege of this gig...Like I said Im not sure the source of the disc I have but I have not come across a piece of music I have liked this much in quite awhile...Sing Me Back Home solo acoustic by Jerry Garcia is about as good as it gets... ThinMan
i do want to say that this was the only time that JG ever did a show by himself on the stage it was in the middle of tGD tour and by the time the Beacon shows came around, he had at least John Kahn on stage with him
Muddy Waters
Found out this additional Intel: Actually the only time he performed solo was 4/10/82.. Supposedly he felt nervous and didn't like being on stage after that one show so he brought Kahn in for the rest of the tour. You really can't tell he is nervous from the performance All I I know is it really cuts to the bone in terms of how good it is imho... There is something about the fact that it is solo acoustic..that really set's it out... To bad this thing was not recorded on camera......it really is all that... Another Question I have was whether he was sitting down during the gig...

Forum MVP Dstone5553 Posted February 10, 2010 Forum MVP Report Share Posted February 10, 2010 This was actually two shows, not two sets, all in the same evening. They are called the Early show and Late show. Garcia was, as most could imagine, not too comfortable out there all by his lonesome with just his wits and his acoustic. From most accounts, he did not look real happy out there, but he wasn't in great shape at the time in his life either. I think that this show is a testament to just the kind of genius he was. It's quite something, even with all its imperfections. As far as I know, this board came out around '02 or '03 to us in the masses and it was a big upgrade from the Aud or at least the one I had.. I agree that the Going, Going, Gone and Sing Me Back Home almost steal the life right out from one's being. Not sure about all your questions but Garcia played one acoustic guitar for this show as far as I know--per usual. Not sure what that means... B&P= Blanks and postage...it's how we used to get our tapes for the better part of the 20th century.
fishman
The only thing that i can add to this is the Capitol was the BEST place to see a show , it was a early and late show in between shows you would go over to the hideburg bar across the street i have some great stories from the Capitol with outstanding shows the sound was great during the day the Capitol was a Porn Theater .I was at both shows and Jerry was Jerry to me he never look uncomfortable he was the MASTER , it was great growing up in Jersey we always had ass kicking shows of all kind. Anyone that taped anything in that place had a great recording the sound in that place was great. Peace Dave
John Conti
I caught Garcia and Kahn out here in Colorado at the Rainbow Music Hall during this time. A very very sad time. Both of the boys were a mess, it was obvious. Maybe 5 songs in the first set, with a repeat in the second set. Forgetting where they were in songs, lyric botches, uninspired. But of course we loved him anyway, and got another 13 years with him. One of the best rides I've ever taken. JC And Yeah, the Capitol was a great place to see a show
Vince and Sue
Jerry had his Takimine, Kahn on Stand up. I was at both early and late shows. Jerry was having a great time, but I know it was reported he was a little "nervous". The boards are everywhere of both shows. Enjoy! Guest ignatz
I'll take your word for it over the "reports" Vince. garcia had stage fright before every gig and was scared shitless on this nite,he came off the stage after the early show and pretty much yelled at john scher telling him to get kahn out to ny before the beacon show

kruston
I can't seem to successfully download the late show from anywhere. I either get a corrupted zip file or flac files that aren't in the correct format or something. Anyone have a solid link to your own version of it or something? Muddy Waters
I started this thread because I was so moved by this performance.... Drugs or not...This show is perfectly imperfect... if that makes any sense.. I wonder if there is any long lost photo that exists of this performance..A black and white framed photo of Garcia solo acoustic the one and only time would be a great find for me....
