I can remember back in the day, pre taper section, this guy knew a guy who had a friend who’s brother, I think, would go to shows in a wheelchair with a blanket on his lap. The undercarriage of the wheelchair was where all the taping equipment was stashed.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Although there are some things that aren’t ideal about the Cork, I was missing it.

I checked their website a few days ago, nothing posted but there wasn’t much posted that far out. …. Gonna get there, I don’t know….

That show has the best yellow dog story I ever heard.

My mom had a surgery where they had to put stents in the tubes in the back of her skull because the fluid wasn’t draining out. She was scared shitless for years, wouldn’t have the surgery, fought with my dad about it. Her former neurologist told her it was a horrible operation. The fluid buildup made her keep falling down. My dad learned that if he called 911 after a fall, they would take her to the hospital, get evaluated further. (Furthur?) when she was in the hospital, a family member visiting my mom’s roommate was talking with my mom. My mom told him she needed the operation but was looking for a sign. The person told my mom, ‘I am your sign. Let me be your sign.’ My mom said ‘ok’, Had the surgery and was fine. True story.

I keep looking at the license plates in the parking lot, expecting to see FIYAH

My mentor back in the day described Fire as actually, a really old song.

Back in the day, ticketron was at Bag and Baggage, 8th and Orange in downtown Wilmington, De. The place sold suitcases, and tickets. People would camp out for days for tickets. I’m not so sure they ever sold any suitcases.
-
Yea, it looks like I am going to have to stay after with Tea in the reading comprehension tutoring class. I have no idea how I got Terrapin Station out of the word Fire. That changes everything but I still have no idea.
-
Do you mean San Fran proper or the Bay Area? Is Oakland outside of ‘San Fran’. It doesn’t matter. I still have no idea. Hell, I thought it’s first time played was Englishtown ‘77.
-
First time in California, outside of San Fran? That may have taken a while. I have no idea.

They did a tune that I would call By and By, a while back at this point, as a filler at the Grand opera House in Wilmington, De. The last song of the last show of the tour. They introduced the song by saying, we’re going to try something we’ve never done before. I wonder if it’s the same song. Nice melody. I still sing it occasionally in my head when it makes it’s way to the front. Nice elective set list.
-
Very interesting set list. I’m digging me and my uncle sandwiched in The Other one. No second set Jerry Ballad but you got Comes a Time early in the first set. The unpredictability musta kept you on your toes, Hardpan. Brother in attendance?

I would highly recommend (no pun intended) not letting your child see you get high, get high with him, or get your pot from, or through him. I did all of the above and lost the parent/child authority, never got it back. Controlled burn might seem cool at first, long story, but my only son literally does not speak to me. Less than cool. Only introduce him to the music. If he wants, needs, or desires the peripheral aspects that go along with the music, let him find that on his own.

I just heard from my niece/ Goddaughter that Dead and Company is playing a benefit concert May 8th at Barton Hall, Cornell university (she works there) $300 minimum to get in, $1,500 to stand in the pit. If that’s not common knowledge, it is now!

I took my son to see DSO at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, De. When he was twelve. He’s a natural born drummer and had been taking lessons. He fit right in. We caught another show together ten years later at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach. He went up front while I stayed back and danced for that one. When we met up after the show he was covered in sweat. Don’t you see?, he had a real good time.
-
That’s been my approach since day one. I sit still and let them come to me, DSO, Grateful Dead, Furthur, etc. I catch them when they come around. I’ve managed to stay in honeymoon mode for 42 years. My last Dark Star show had about four or five tunes that I’ve never seen live before. Kinda funny, my first six Grateful Dead shows, I saw Good Lovin’ five times. It took another twenty years to catch it again. At least that’s how I remember it. Who are the Grateful Dead and why do they keep following me?
-
I caught the Dirty Grass Players at the Garfield Theatre in Chestertown a few years back during Downrigging weekend. Bluegrass band, their set had a few Dead tunes sprinkled throughout. A real good time.
-
I remember the vibe on the forums from that show also. Race is on, Run for the Roses to open a show tied to the Preakness. Pretty cool.

I started in 1980. I was lectured to about everything Grateful Dead by my roommate at college who was connected to some serious tourheads. The band was excited about a fresh start with Brent. The word on the street was that they had big plans and were excited. BTW, word of mouth was how the news was spread back then. It really was a subculture. I feel that they were going to take the late seventies live show success to the next level. I say that in retrospect. I also think that this era is where Jerry had evolved his playing and singing furthest before the drugs started showing up in the quality of his performances. Yea, the early eighties are the good old days for me. If I am not mistaken, I think 11/30/80 helps me make my point.

Did you hear the one about......?
Greg from Chestertown replied to Greg from Chestertown's topic in Comedy Central
Two guys are walking down the street. They get to the corner and there’s a dog licking his balls. One guy says to the other, “man, I wish I could do that.” The other guy says, “if you go over and pet him real nice, maybe he’ll let you.” -
I can name that show in …… three songs.
-
Maybe if he had time to to evolve it. I was thinking maybe if he got a hold of those lyrics when he was a younger man but it took a lifetime to come up with those lyrics.
-
Yet, at the same time, Jerry is cranking out some of his best work with Grisman in Grateful Dawg and his Jerry Band performances are some of my sweetest memories of him. …. and I say, wonderful…..

That ball was uncatchable.
