Yea, I dig that set list.

So, I’m thinking Folsom Prison Blues would be a bit of a showstopper but no one who was present is commenting. Please describe.

Random thoughts and randomness in general
Greg from Chestertown replied to Rude's topic in Random Thoughts
just had a guy at the gas station ask me what my license plate (boxrain)meant. I asked him if he ever heard of the Grateful Dead, and if he ever saw them. He said yea, once., Austin, Texas, 1969. I looked it up. If it was Austin, he musta meant 2/23/70. He said they did the coolest thing. After they were done playing the show, they set up a huge set of cymbals and the guy just played the cymbals for a really long time. He said he has seen the Moody Blues three times. I thought that was cool. -
My thought exactly. Oh Well, I know what I’m not doing this summer.

Ahh, they fucked it all up! Gotta open with Jack Straw. Estimated/ Eyes needs to be after Scarlet/ Fire. Eyes into Terrapin and Morning Dew in the Encore slot. Wait!, Brokedown for the encore, Dew right outta Terrapin. How come they don’t do any Phish covers? They’re a great band, so I heard.
-
That’s a good one, gotta check it out. I’m guessing a late era Race is on, second set opening reads like a first set opener, Playin’ into Eyes must be heard, I think. I’m on my way…

I know, right!? Everyone thinks my not listening to Any Phish at all is because I had to work late every day and couldn’t make it to the record store before they closed. Conscience decision, friends. To me, it’s all about Jerry Garcia’s mind, the effect LSD had on him, and how he communicated that to us through his guitar. Jerry’s noodling is his innermost thoughts. That’s what I’m chasing down. He was first, he’s the only one. Everyone else is simply trying to reinvent the wheel. Can’t be done, we already have the wheel. That’s why Dark Star Orchestra works for me. They’re replicating a previous GD experience, a time machine if you will, while still moving the music forward with elective set lists. After Jerry died, I did a couple Phil and Friends shows, a couple JGB band shows with Merl. I figured it was over until I stumbled upon Dark Star Orchestra. Praise DSO and their loyal fans.

I don’t always listen to music, but when I do, it’s the Grateful Dead. Stay Dead, my friend.
-
They’re not the best at what they do, they’re the only ones who do what they do.
-
I thought Dark Star was following me but if they need to wander off, that’s fine. I will catch up with them when they come back around. ….love would not forsake the days that lie between ……

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That being said, when I have steak, I have Filet Mignon. I have managed to never hear a single Phish tune. 43 years in and I’m still searching through the Grateful Dead archives. Maybe after I get through all of that but for now, river roll, roll, roll.
-
I can remember back in the day, pre taper section, this guy knew a guy who had a friend who’s brother, I think, would go to shows in a wheelchair with a blanket on his lap. The undercarriage of the wheelchair was where all the taping equipment was stashed.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Although there are some things that aren’t ideal about the Cork, I was missing it.

I checked their website a few days ago, nothing posted but there wasn’t much posted that far out. …. Gonna get there, I don’t know….

That show has the best yellow dog story I ever heard.

My mom had a surgery where they had to put stents in the tubes in the back of her skull because the fluid wasn’t draining out. She was scared shitless for years, wouldn’t have the surgery, fought with my dad about it. Her former neurologist told her it was a horrible operation. The fluid buildup made her keep falling down. My dad learned that if he called 911 after a fall, they would take her to the hospital, get evaluated further. (Furthur?) when she was in the hospital, a family member visiting my mom’s roommate was talking with my mom. My mom told him she needed the operation but was looking for a sign. The person told my mom, ‘I am your sign. Let me be your sign.’ My mom said ‘ok’, Had the surgery and was fine. True story.

I keep looking at the license plates in the parking lot, expecting to see FIYAH

My mentor back in the day described Fire as actually, a really old song.

Back in the day, ticketron was at Bag and Baggage, 8th and Orange in downtown Wilmington, De. The place sold suitcases, and tickets. People would camp out for days for tickets. I’m not so sure they ever sold any suitcases.
-
Yea, it looks like I am going to have to stay after with Tea in the reading comprehension tutoring class. I have no idea how I got Terrapin Station out of the word Fire. That changes everything but I still have no idea.
-
Do you mean San Fran proper or the Bay Area? Is Oakland outside of ‘San Fran’. It doesn’t matter. I still have no idea. Hell, I thought it’s first time played was Englishtown ‘77.
-
First time in California, outside of San Fran? That may have taken a while. I have no idea.

They did a tune that I would call By and By, a while back at this point, as a filler at the Grand opera House in Wilmington, De. The last song of the last show of the tour. They introduced the song by saying, we’re going to try something we’ve never done before. I wonder if it’s the same song. Nice melody. I still sing it occasionally in my head when it makes it’s way to the front. Nice elective set list.

Very interesting set list. I’m digging me and my uncle sandwiched in The Other one. No second set Jerry Ballad but you got Comes a Time early in the first set. The unpredictability musta kept you on your toes, Hardpan. Brother in attendance?

I would highly recommend (no pun intended) not letting your child see you get high, get high with him, or get your pot from, or through him. I did all of the above and lost the parent/child authority, never got it back. Controlled burn might seem cool at first, long story, but my only son literally does not speak to me. Less than cool. Only introduce him to the music. If he wants, needs, or desires the peripheral aspects that go along with the music, let him find that on his own.
