  1. yes, I hear you. Point taken. To elaborate, I am talking about how he gave it his all, singing with heart and emotion. Yes, his all towards the end wasn’t much. He probably sucked earlier and later that same night, but, for me, that song (Visions) , that night, was him saying goodbye. I could talk for a long time about the effect the late second set Jerry ballads had on my entire Grateful Dead live experiences.it was why I kept going to shows after Hornsby bailed. For that moment when he showed us his old self. Keep in mind, one of the facets of the sixties ‘revolution’ was better living through chemistry’. The Grateful Dead was somewhat based in that thinking. They rode that wave for a while. I think Jerry was the epitome of that thinking. That logic didn’t work. That facet of the sixties was a failure. Jerry is Proof. Ultimately, it shortened his life. I’m going to a memorial gathering later today for my ex brother in law. He just passed, three years younger than me. He smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish. Regardless, he was a fellow human being. I am going to speak to the younger people there about the need to take care of themselves, mind, body, and spirit. I have been on this planet long enough to know that life has a way of catching up With us. I would love to see the ones after me nail the dismount, even though I won’t be around to see it.
  2. The lyrics were so appropriate, fitting for the place in life Jerry was at. Sung with raw emotion. It wouldn’t have sounded as good coming from a healthier, younger, better voiced Jerry. The song fit the condition he was in. He knew better than anyone just how bad he felt, how close he was. He had a great run and he fucking nailed the dismount!
  3. The night before unbroken chain included a screaming Iko, I was laughing at the top of my lungs and could not hear myself. Also, best ever Visions of Johanna.
  4. That’s funny. Yea, I was reading on line. They’re saying Phil got a new Bass in’83 and wanted to try it out on St. Stephen.
  5. your post implied that the Grateful Dead brought Saint Stephen off the shelf and broke it back out again. I wasn’t aware of that if they did. I don’t have deadbase, enjoy learning more about the band based on what the cat dragged home, whatever comes my way. Foreplay is the best. Just googled it. Wow! You learn something new every day. ....don’t be surprised if you find me dreaming too....
  6. St.Stephen at the garden? Grateful Dead? Really? I was there for RFK Casey Jones bust out. Pretty cool with train horns. A friend was at unbroken chain breakout. He said the whole place just went Naaah! At the same time.
  7. That is so cool. Yea, I watched it last night right before I posted. When I first got turned on to the Dead by a veteran dead head, it was explained to me like this; forget Saint Steven, you’re never gonna see it. You’re seeing a show if you see little red rooster or the wheel and oh, my god, if you see box of rain or Dark Star.....you’re really seeing some shit. I saw rooster and the wheel in the same show seven years later. I caught my first box of rain after seven years and Dark Star after ten. Brent was Dead twenty one days later. All my non deadhead friends were like ‘what are you gonna do?’ And I was like ‘I don’t care, I saw Dark Star.’
  8. So, this Anthem show is a recreation of 6/09/73. Set list that night includes box of Rain. They put it on the shelf the following month, on 7/28/73, never playing it again until 1986. One of the last times played before going into hibernation for thirteen years. Pretty cool.
  9. And the man in the suit has bought a new car on the profit he’s made on your dreams.
  10. I guess if you go far enough back, they only played one night? Not sure, it’s been a while and I am going by memory (that’s funny) not looking it up.
  11. I more interested in the vibe at the electric factory this year. It’s under new ownership. I’m wondering what security will be like. I hope they don’t bust us for smiling on a cloudy day.
  12. I’ve done a lot of philly shows, except for last year. Basically all of them. My gut tells me they’re usually recreations. Can’t remember any originals but then again, they did last year. Dewey was always recreation first night, original second nite but last year they switched it up. I guess it’s more fluid than ever. You’re guess is as good as mine. I’m going both nites. It’s the best insurance ever.
  13. I ran into a fellow dancer from the show this afternoon at the local drug store. Nice chat. The after show glow still going strong. A classic recreation of a classic show. Now, with Hardpan’s recording, ....... it ain’t never gonna end!
  14. Yea, I had the same thought. Speakers up in the air catching the breeze coming out of the speakers eliminated the talkers in the recording. I was near Hardpan’s set up and had to move back to the dance corner to get away from a talker. I was like what’s that noise?
  15. I wasn’t there, but they played it in philly, I think ‘94. Maybe ‘93, maybe ‘95, maybe ‘92. Anyway, the Grateful Dead played it.
  16. Yea, I kept telling myself, shut up, Greg. You talk too much, but to no avail. A great time was had by all.
  17. Great sound! Incredible job! Thanks so much, and thanks for the fishing stories.
  18. Yup, I had to climb out of bed in the middle of my post show coma to walk off leg cramps. That’s the worst.
  19. I definitely noticed and totally enjoyed the China/rider jam being ‘73 appropriate. Couldn’t agree more, days between with how you describe the band nailing era proper sound and style. What they do is no small feat. (Little Feat?)
  20. And with the house lights on, you see a sea of tye dyes moving and shaking like only we can, all smiles, beaming with happiness!!!!
  21. I thought the lights were fine. I was looking for the house lights during Truckin’ when they sing ‘sometimes the lights all shining on me’ like the dead used to do but it never happened. This is not a complaint.
  22. Yea, billk522 kept me going also. He was the benchmark for endurance. He was drenched in sweat. So was I when we met, he gave me a huge hug! I do remember seeing him at other shows before.
  23. So, we still have 6/10/73 to look forward to. My phone says I took 16, 818 steps yesterday. Dance marathon.
  24. Yea, we were talking about how we were raised with the free range parenting method. Mom would lock us out of the house. If we wanted a drink, we had to use the garden hose. We didn’t know it was 100, it was just hot out. We rode our bikes without helmets. The good old days.
  25. Yea, I met you. Pretty sure, but you didn’t give me your stage name and I couldn’t remember your given name. I kept asking but it still didn’t make it to long term. The band is so incredible that I was running out of energy thinking the set was almost over but they just kept going and going and going. Had to dig deep and push to the end. Easy with that song list. SUGAR MAGS! My first Row Jimmy in a long time. Box a rain is like no other song. Those lyrics kill. I dug up some old sneakers for the show cuz My new ones don’t dance well. Mistake. My feet are killing me today. Gotta find some nice ones before Philly! anyway, I had a blast, really enjoyed the people, took the show to a new level. Thanks everybody!
