  3. On this day 34 years ago, Brent Mydland brought the goods in Louisville, Kentucky… https://www.gratefuldeadoftheday.com/04-09-1989 And on this day 1,990 years ago, word is that a guy named Jesus did something cool of his own. YMMV, but Happy Easter to those who follow such things! 🐰

  9. As a PDX resident this may resonate with you, but if they’re not specific with how they govern camping and humans in California, it will turn into a new city overnight. I agree that it will work out for you somehow, but the thoughts you’ve ready shared indicate that you’re crafty enough to get it done. Perhaps the Skull and Roses site has a chat function or other resources through which you can communicate? Heck, even asking them directly wouldn’t hurt. Is there a way to post on Cash or Trade for such a topic? RudeDog May know… Safe travels! DD
  10. Funny that I was just yesterday also calculating that it was indeed 30 years ago for those, because I am reuniting with a great friend at the Phish Greek shows that I went “in and out of the Gardens” in Fall 1993, Once I thought for a moment, the math is easy, haha. Right on, Billy - can’t wait until our next show together! 😎 (Get out West, ffs!) 😝🥳 DD
  11. Indeed, the sort of thing that one may normally whistle past the graveyard in knowing that I happened to attend both of those shows. They were both in 1993. And they were both the 7th out of 7 shows in a row for me. 1. March 18 - Cap Center. The Way2Go>Wave horror was somewhat diminished in that they didn’t take the place of songs, i.e. they followed China>Rider and then got Estimated>Terrapin to follow. Make no mistake, I (likely) wasn’t thrilled at the time, but at least they didn’t shorten the set, at least from a song count standpoint. This set had Bruce on accordion. 2. June 23 - Deer Creek. This show was like a trip on the struggle bus (pun intended), until it wasn’t. After the Way2>Wave was a run of music that everyone here should hear. Terrapin> JAM!> Drums/Space> Dark Star> Wheel> Good Love e: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds So while Way2Go was sometimes pretty good by this point, Wave2theWind was never on my wishlist. But these shows had some other things to console us, despite that horror… Here’s the Deer Creek show. Get in there today, that jam is a monstrosity. Terrapin as we know it as well as reality begins to be left behind at around the 12-minute mark. https://archive.org/details/gd1993-06-23.sbd.miller.108984.flac16
  12. Any post coma GDTR is always an indicator of a great show. Anyone can try to test this theory…🤓
  13. Ok, here is the answer and some other facts around this topic. After it’s initial offering at Winterland on March 18, 1977, Fire on the Mountain was not played to a California audience outside of San Francisco until December 30, 1978 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. The New Year’s run in 1978 was 2 in San Diego, this 1 in LA, and then NYE at Winterland (Blues Brothers show that has been released, and does include FOTM as well). We know FOTM was played extensively after being introduced: 22 times in 1977 and 24 times in 1978 (most of any year, beating the 23 times of 1981 by 1). So it was played a total of 43 times before Californians outside of San Francisco city limits finally got a chance to have their faces melted to this mystical tune. Here are the non-SF California shows that did NOT get a Fire on their Mountain before the Westwood crowd got it on 12/30/78. 6/4/77 Inglewood 1/6/78 San Bernardino (they did get another Estimated, no Terrapin) 1/7/78 San Diego 1/8/78 San Diego 1/10/78 Los Angeles 1/11/78 Los Angeles 1/13/78 Santa Barbara 1/14/78 Bakersfield 1/15/78 Fresno 1/17/78 Sacramento 1/18/78 Stockton 12/27/78 San Diego 12/28/78 San Diego Just so no one has to take their shoes off to count those, that makes 13 shows that were played in California outside of San Francisco during the height of FOTM being played where it was not. It is so unlikely that I kept thinking I would find one that fucked up my little trivia game offering as I reviewed them again, but nope, somehow Garcia found his way through all 13 of these shows without playing Fire. So unlikely you’d think it was intentional if we didn’t know better. Side note is that Long Beach was not played during this era. So not sure how I came across this statistical anomaly, but I did, and thought I would share it with each of you. Hope you enjoyed all of that as much as I did! DD
  14. First time played in the state of California but not within San Francisco city limits. And a side note is that Fire was never played in Englishtown, New Jersey. 🤓 That Spring 1977 run at the Palladium was actually 5 shows, and Fire was indeed played (twice), but since this is about when it was first played IN CALIFORNIA but not within San Francisco, this all has nothing to do with it haha 😂 But I do always get a kick out of the fact that your first show was May 1977. Can’t imagine how cool that must have been!
  15. I see what you’re thinking, Tea. What we’re asking for is after the song first appeared at Winterland as a fully developed song as we know it, when was it played in a California city not named San Francisco AFTER that. This answer is after 3/18/77. Hope that helps…
  16. Fire was first played on March 18, 1977 (just over 46 years ago for those of you counting at home!) at Winterland. Take a guess at when and where it was first played in California outside of San Francisco. Obviously you can’t use Deadbase or the Internet. And, yes, I am asking because it is pretty interesting. Let’s have some fun with the guesses! DD
  17. Here in PHX The Noodles play every Sunday. They’re really good, and a lot of fun. Next week they will celebrate 26 years of playing. They used to be at Full Sail Inn, now they play at Cactus Jack’s. Check em out if you’re in AZ.
  18. I see that hiding before Johnny is Goode! First 3 of set 2 also appear to be righteous. Thanks, Bill.
  19. Set 1 Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo -> Walkin' Blues Built To Last We Can Run Queen Jane Approximately Candyman Cassidy Touch Of Grey Set 2 Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain Estimated Prophet -> Eyes Of The World -> Drums Space -> The Wheel -> I Need A Miracle -> Standing On The Moon -> Turn On Your Lovelight Encore U.S. Blues https://archive.org/details/gd1989-03-27.sbd.walker-scotton.miller.81528.sbeok.flac16
  20. That must have been wild for those people to be playing hoops and running whilst dosed. To each his own…
  21. Take a moment and feel his spirit today (every fucking day if you’re smart)… Here’s February 28, 1969 at the Fillmore West. Leave it on!
  22. I took my son to an indoor show in Berkeley when he was 12. There was all sorts of fun going down lol. He is level-headed and had a positive experience. I think this really depends on the kid, and as you know 10 is not the same as 12. But I vote that you take him. He’ll not only live, but he will be better off for the experience. DD
