First time for DSO at the Wiltern? That is a very cool venue.
-
Love the 3 pre and then a bunch o’ tunes post. That’s all I have to say about that.
-
This is a crappy story and I’m sorry to hear it. But Phish has a lot fans, and some of them are kynd people. Stereotyping is rarely accurate. Glad that you didn’t sink yourself to the level of someone who clearly doesn’t have respect for others. That can be very difficult to deal with. Peace, MC.

Good thing they played Sis and Bros. Wouldn't want anyone feeling like they didn’t get to hear enough music. 😛

BEW? Affirmative. Lol that RD implies that his brain is still completely in tact. 😝 Set One: Ripple > Not Fade Away > Touch Of Grey ; Looks Like Rain ; Brown Eyed Women ; Keep On Growing ; Althea ; Greatest Story Ever Told ; Run For The Roses > Not Fade Away (reprise) Set Two: *Help On The Way > *Slipknot > *Feel Like A Stranger ; *Eyes Of The World > Dark Star > drums > space (w/ a recording of Robert Hunter singing "Boys In The Bar Room" blended in) > Alligator > Days Between > Around And Around Encore: Black Muddy River

Hoping there is a picture of the Band like last year’s RR show that looks out on the audience. That was so cool.
-
Great pic! is it possible to please identify who we’re looking at?
-
Damn, that just gets down to business and does not let up. Not a throwaway through it all.

Set One: Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo ; The Race Is On > Mister Charlie > Sitting On Top Of The World ; Green Green Grass Of Home ; They love Each Other (73' style) ; Chinatown Shuffle ; Ramble On Rose ; You Ain't Women Enough (To Take My Man) ; My And My Uncle ; Good Lovin' (72' style) Set Two: Here Comes Sunshine ; Pride Of Cucamonga ; Greatest Story Ever Told ; Cryptical Envelopment > drums > The Other One > Cryptical Envelopment > China Doll > One More Saturday Night Encore: Ripple

Ah, the one song in between part is critical here. Obviously not applicable to the Alpine show I mentioned, or the Rich Stadium show that I’m thinking of. going to get Deadbase now...
-
I’m surprised that this only occurred 5 times for the GD, as it seems much more common since Bobby became the sole architect of setlist design. I have not yet consulted Deadbase to confirm the other two... I know one of the other two for sure, as I was there: 7-18-89, Alpine. If I had to guess the other I would say Rich Stadium in the late 80’s or early 90’s, but I’m not positive. Thanks for the cool fact, John. Please share the answers when you see fit?

Hang on. Are you saying that you do not expect any more DSO California shows in 2019? Or are you saying that, if there are some (and that is highly likely), you won’t likely be in attendance?

Looking good. Can’t wait to see the West Coast dates!

Boots were of leather A breath of cologne Her mirror was a window She sat quite alone All around her The garden grew Scarlet and purple And crimson and blue She came and she went And at last went away The garden was sealed When the flowers decayed On the wall of the garden A legend did say: No one may come here Since no one may stay

Haha, that’s an awesome post, Greg. i can’t help but thinking if the grass is the victim or the crime here?
-
Hope you’re serious, RD. And the reason that you make many life-changing decisions on or right after tour is because you are always either on or right after tour. 😁

I hate cell phones at a show (I don’t get how a person could be more interested in recording what they’re watching vs. just enjoying it and imprinting it on their soul), and don’t want to be around cigarettes anywhere, but the notion that everyone at a Grateful Dead show (or any concert) is going to follow the rules established by others is not realistic. It’s also contradictory to the spirit of the Grateful Dead scene. The irony of a hippie telling someone else what they can and cannot do is a tell. And the implication that increased popularity and show attendance is a bad thing is not fair to the band. Money is a thing, and they are entitled to more of it if the market allows. What if DSO could fill Alpine Valley? Good or bad thing? I think it would be fantastic, but it sure as hell would not be as easy as rolling into some bar to see them. Fascinating topic. Change is hard at times. Hang in there.

My favorite Rodney Dangerfield line
DesertDead replied to Greg from Chestertown's topic in Comedy Central

Thanks, Greg. Likewise, I didn’t want to try to be funny as I wasn’t sure if you were playin’. Everyone here, including me knows that you are a great dude. I appreciate you coming back and clarifying.

Not sure if serious? But, yes.

I saw a guy named John Kadlecik play last night in Los Angeles. Talented cat. 😎

Wow. I have never seen this setlist before right now.
