A really good time last night. Agree with everything you guys said. Great first time for me at Penn's Peak. Really enjoyed driving to a venue in the country versus the city, nice large stand alone free venue parking lot brings everyone together before the show, and the weather held out just enough for some good hanging out before the concert. Highlights for me were the Cumberland, and Scarlet/Fire, UJB, Playin. Excellent playing in a venue I will most definitely be returning to.

This was a really good show last night. China Cat opener immediately set the tone and had the entire audience hooked and very happy. This continued for the first set, very good playing by the band and a very receptive and vocal audience cheering the band on through the musical peaks. Most of the house on their feet, even though the theater was full of seats. Kind of tough to pick highlights, as the band played very strong renditions of all first set songs, but after a quick build up to the peak during China/Rider, Cassidy kept it moving right along. Friend of the Devil was a nice breather, with El Paso getting everyone moving again. Stagger Lee's groove was fun to dance to, Passenger delivered straight intensity, Peggy O again was a bit of a breather, followed by yet another dizzying, frenzied climax to end the first set with TMNS. Set two eased us back in with a strong and well played Althea. Easy to Love You was the calm before the highlight of the night, Eyes of the World. Eyes contained some very delirious peaks, as good I have ever seen the band play. Estimated came out of Eyes, as juicy and treacherous sounding as ever. Franklin's continued the high, and by this point I was nearly spent. Drums and short space section let everyone catch their breath, another slow build with Lost Sailor/Saint, Sugar Magnolia and Casey Jones allowed us all to cut loose again, followed by Lisa joining the rest of the band and Dino swapping out on drums for a guest drummer on Box of Rain. So, this night was why I go see these guys. Really beautiful music. 5 hours of insane traffic coming from CT, made it just in time, was nicely surprised by a front row aisle ticket waiting for me at will call, plenty of room down in front, drive to Long Island last night, missed my turn, Lincoln Tunnel, center of Manhattan, another tunnel, finally wound up at my brother in law's around 4am, long day, 😴 😴 😴

That is one stout looking setlist 👀

I will attempt to comply on the next show I go to. I did, however, give the format some thought (after all it was 3am into a mostly sleepless night 😜). I figured anyone interested could read the setlist without having to read my charged up review from standing ten feet from Jeff playing Jerry's guitar all night and melting the place down. Or vice versa. Don't expect much from me on electives. I'm good to remember the date and fillers, that's about it, not much of a note taker.

I object, check the Boston thread 👮👮

I poked around online for custom badge maker. You could actually have a real one, but they're around a hundred bucks 😱. Just breaking balls, and I too like to see the setlist at the top of the post.

I haven't seen you outright volunteer just yet, but perhaps a little custom hardware will help push you in the right direction.

I was wondering the same thing. I watched Jeff take the guitar off at the end of the night and hand it over to Nick, who removed the strap and placed it into its case. Both guys were treating the guitar with a clear sense of reverence, like the treasured artifact that it is. Really cool, and I wanted to have as long of a look at that instrument as I could.

He was filming the two Cap shows for the Relix streams. He said it was him along with five other fixed cameras throughout the theater, with a guy running them with a joystick and operating the feed. The DSO Facebook page has a few songs from the beginning of each of the four sets posted.

Killer show last night, really enjoyed the Sugaree and Bird Song during the first set. Short first set at 6 songs and 55 minutes, but hearing that the band was playing really well left us with high hopes for a monstrous second set. The second set did not disappoint in the monstrous department, all the way through. Fat grooves on Shakedown and Women are Smarter, powerful Terrapin, Rob pummeling the theater's structural integrity with the low beam frequencies during drums, GDTRFB had all hands on deck and moving along. The setlist seemed familiar, and by the time Watchtower came I knew I had listened to this show a good bit, and had a good idea of what show it was, my first time guessing one correctly. The Dew was tremendous, and the Good Lovin sandwich let us all shake it out once more. Knockin on Heavens Door to bring us all back in for a soft landing, only to blow the doors out again with a juicy China-> Rider to remind us all, once again, who the reigning champions of the Grateful Dead music are.

Great WRS and second set. Was exhausted after only an hour of sleep from the night before, but rested up today and looking forward to whatever they have in store for tonight.

The evening started off with Rob Eaton introducing that Jeff was going to be playing Wolf, and Jeff was positioned center stage for what had to be a great honor for him. The band delivered the goods, starting off with Promised Land, with Jeff ripping some extended leads at the end. Lisa came out for some lovely trio singing on They Love Each Other. Mama Tried and Mexicali got the place moving. Jeff gave a sweet vocal delivery of Peggy-O. Cassidy was excellent, Tennessee Jed brought the power, and Jack Straw to end the first set brought the thunder. Second set started off with Half Step, with some nice peaks at the end. Franklin's Tower had the house rocking. They ripped through Samson and Delilah and gave the house a chance to cool down with Friend of the Devil. Playing in the Band got pretty nice and spaced out, drums finished with Dino really wearing the skins out good. Space was fun to listen to, with Jeff getting some really great tones out of Jerry's guitar and his effects pedals. Black Peter, to me, was the highlight of the night. The band brought the thunder on several occasions throughout the night, but they brought the entire house down to where you could hear a pin drop during Black Peter. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever gotten to witness at a concert. Playin reprise, Around and Around was ripping. U.S. Blues, White Rabbit and Werewolves of London to finish the night. Great playing by the band, great energy in the house, great to see Jeff playing Jerry's guitar all night.

Great setlist, love the Grateful Dead recording of this show. Jerry says "looky here" just off mic before delivering the "don't lend your hand" lyric, tough to beat.

Nice to hear this. I am bringing my brother to a show in May, not his first, but our first together, very excited. Hope to be able to make it out to more stuff together.
-
Agreed, no idea how people have the energy to maintain a conversation at a volume that they can hear each other over the band for that long. Really frustrating at shows and on an otherwise great sounding audience recording like this one.
-
There's a recording of this show up on the archive in case anyone wants to hear it. Nice to hear DSO's take on the JGB material, and nice to hear Lisa and Donna singing together on some numbers.
-
Thanks, sounds pretty nice. Might have to make the trip up there. Really enjoyed this band. 👀

Thinking about trying to make it up for this. How big is this venue compared to The Acoustic?

What a spectacular night of music. I went in with no expectations, as a way to break up the winter and see some of my favorite musicians before the spring northeast run. They played a few Dead songs, being Mason's Children, Scarlet Begonias, Bird Song, Not Fade Away. Perhaps one I'm forgetting. The rest of the material was originals and covers, all of which I was completely unfamiliar with. A Jerry band song which was never played live. A song DSO wrote with Robert Hunter. Another one Jeff wrote with Donna Godchaux. Another that Phil Lesh recorded. This was one if the finest times I have ever had seeing live music. I haven't been out to see any live music since DSO on Long Island in November, and they say that "hunger cooks a good sauce". There were times at the end of songs that my tongue was literally out of my mouth and I was about to keel over, heart pounding out of my chest from dancing and enjoyment. Again, most of the material was completely unfamiliar to me and the band absolutely nailed all of it, nothing short of top notch musicianship. Do not hesitate for an instant to see this band if you get the chance to do so.

Listening to the recording of this show, killer playing and sound quality!!

If a recording becomes available, I would be Very grateful as well. Pure magic, and the best I have seen them play. Would love to get a chance to hear it again.
