Saw Deep Banana Blackout and Kung Fu at the Capitol Theater last night. DBB was joined by Michael Hampton, P Funk guitarist, for the last half of the set. First time seeing Kung Fu, they were very good, really enjoyed their set. Next was DBB, really fun to see them after almost 20 years since the last time. Used to see them all the time when I was younger, really a high energy band. The final set was both bands playing together on stage. It was a relentlessly high energy show, I had a tough time keeping up. Made me appreciate the dynamics of a DSO show, giving you a breather, changing up the feel and tempo, groove etc. It was interesting to see that Michael Hampton was playing an Alembic Furthur, their version of Jerry's Wolf. Pretty cool to actually see one in person, used to covet that guitar when I used to play.

Wow, what a dream second set!!!!

Picked up my ticket last night, can't wait. Camping in the RV section with my brother, gonna be fun.

Ah man, looks like such a good list! Kills me that these shows are within a few hours drive, just can't commit to them with my work this time of year. Everyone have fun ð

One of my favorite parts of the whole operation ðð

We passed headphones back and forth for a couple hours after the show in the hotel and listened to it on the ride home, now that's pathetic ðĪŠðĪŠ

I used the CP-4s, along with another set of Nak 300s with the CP-1 capsules, with the gain turned down on the CP-1s until there was no clipping on all but the loudest notes of the concert. I was using just the shotguns this summer when I started taping and wanted to see how the CP-1s sounded side by side, and the recording seems to sound the best with the sources blended together. The CP-1s pick up more talking but seem to complement the CP-4s and help to fill out the sound. I'm new at this, just learning as I go. Might see about adding some more mics, maybe not, we will see.

I'm glad you guys enjoy the recording. I just put the mics up and tried to capture the wonderful job Cotter and the band did in a great venue with great sound. It didn't seem too bad with talkers in there, or maybe the extra space kept the talking from getting so echoey and finding its way onto the recording.

Haha, it was great swapping tales with you. Just passed by BillK's old street of residence on my delivery route, as I do almost every day, small world.

I'm happy it came out good. The sound in there was among the best I've ever heard, had high hopes for the tape. Thanks for your stories, too. Whenever I tell mine, I feel like Al Bundy reliving the game when he made four touchdowns, haha. Gotta try to make it out next year.

Just got my recording of this show uploaded to the archive if anyone wants to listen to it: https://archive.org/details/dso2018-12-01.nak300.cp1.cp4.flac24

I gotta mention the lighting at the concert, given the recent discussion on the board. I thought it was perfect, not distracting or blinding at all, and complemented the music perfectly all night ðĪĐðĪĐ

Well, it was a truly magnificent concert, from start to end, and a true battle of endurance to keep up with the band's relentless pace. The sound in the hall was exceptionally fine, probably my favorite place to have seen a concert, will definitely return if possible. It was a pleasure to meet everyone last night in our nation's capitol. My favorite part of the night was Skip's ruthless Other One tease out of Truckin'. It sounded so sneaky and greasy, and the bass tone sounded so punchy and clear. I think if he actually kicked off The Other One in that theater, the place could have blasted into smithereens. The introduction to Playing in the Band was such a fantastic release after all that tension that was built up in the bass solo, especially after expecting a completely different release in The Other One, just masterful!!! Thank you to all for such a fun night.

Loved it when Rob grabbed the stuffed Alligator during the song and made him do a little dance, or shook him, or whatever he did. Somehow the beast got up on top of the keyboard during the song, and I looked up just in time to see Rob doing something funny with it.

Highlight for me was the post drums Dark Star jam. Rob B was on fire, laying out chords and really driving the band. The ending sequences to both sets were excellent, really enjoyed the early style second set.

I am really sad to hear about this. Really makes you second guess about trusting anything besides what you bring. Why someone would try to insert that type of negativity in such a peaceful and positive space is beyond me. I heard of some confirmed fentanyl blotters that showed up in Canada earlier this year with the Hofmann bicycle print on them. Could also be negative influences trying to disrupt people's lives. I guess I could understand, from a user's perspective, for wanting to use a blotter for something like fentanyl that's dangerous in such low doses, but why use a common LSD print, with a familiar LSD subject, if it's not LSD. Thank God for test kits, they're worth the effort for the peace of mind. I was going to make the ride out last night, but wifey says I've been seeing too many lately, and I enjoyed some family time last night. I smelled either some shitty weed or some K2 up in Maine the other night. Crazy to think someone would smoke the synthetic stuff in a legal state, could be someone who gets drug tested like me (not that I use that stuff) or just some poorly grown weed.

I wonder if he thinks DSO plays Grateful Dead concerts note for note. I know that it was a high energy concert and I was soaked by the end of the night. https://archive.org/details/dso2018-11-17.nak300.cp1.cp4

Yep, that was it. It was cool to hear them sneak in the back way. I taped the show, just haven't gotten a chance to work on the recording. I'll post a link here when it's ready, hopefully next week sometime.
