DSO Drive-In Ooooo-Eeee @ Roseland - Canadaigua, NY

That's true for those of you that live there - I'm not worried about the concert much at all.. it's getting there that's the issue. Last flight I took had some jackass intentionally making a scene walking around coughing and sneasing without a mask, and a middle aged white man screaming at a younger black family sitting next to him. I guess I'm the outlier here though - I imagine no one putting this on expects people will fly in to sit and listen to a live show through a rental car stereo... But the band and crew have to fly too... -

I'm hella torn and hate this (._. ) I feel super dedicated to this band - They are my life.. I feel I absolutely have to be at the first show back, and it'll be fucking magic. But it just doesn't feel safe or socially responsible to be trying to do this right now, I don't get it. Though I also believe the dead show live music experience is really important, especially in times of unrest and confusion like these. But I doubt these will be anything like that experience I'm talking about. I've already flown once in 'rona season, and the weeks of psychosomatic hell following might not be worth anything... Even so, just today I pulled the trigger and bought my plane tickets to Philly. And now you post this which means I already have to change them (;-___-) And then it's just hanging in the air that all of these will prolly be cancelled - Which again I feel is perhaps the smart and socially responsible thing to do and actually find myself hoping for ;_; idk, someone talk some sense into or out of me. -

So I'll tell you all about something that happened In Seattle this last time. During drums, I'm dancing, someone I don't know randomly decided to interupt and volunteer to me, "You know, back in the day, thousands of years ago, if you got sick, they'd take you out into the middle of nowhere, surround, and beat drums at you." He looked me right in the eyes and said, "This [going to dead shows] is the healthiest thing anyone can do." Deadheads are protected ;3 What the world needs more than anything in the midst of all this is the experience of these shows - If any are forced to be cancelled, it will be a terrible tragedy and a missed opportunity to send a much needed message.

There's gotta be something missing between Colorado and Wyoming...

After the first Snowden leaks, I went without any phone at all for years - Some of the nicest of my life too, albeit, a very solitary life. After the first week once the addictive panic of disconnection wears off, a deep tranquility I didn't realize was possible sets in. Unfortunately certain aspects of modernity are no longer possible without this device - Totally bogus. But yeah, cellphone use and this level of jackedinness is a problem. Backups though.. always backup everything and often.

Just got home from Steely Dead - They were really great. I don't know what I expected going in, but it was certainly exceeded. Some really excellent transitions - What they're doing resonates with my own sensibilities in a way I like and appreciate. My first time seeing A-Bear and I was quite impressed. Go see these guys. Truckin' > Black Friday ; Scarlet Begonias > Dirty Work ~ Here Comes Sunshine ; Night By Night ~ Loser ; Josie > The Other One > Josie ;; Shakedown Street > Kid Charlemagne > Shakedown Street ; Green Earrings ~ Samson And Delilah ; Deal > Reelin' In The Years > Deal ;;

This one wasn't as cohesive as Tahoe or Seattle - Some of the transitions were too forced and fell flat. As good of playing as ever and the choice of songs was lovely - The big picture just didn't come together fully for me last night. Too many highlights to try and list. Drums was rather unique and super fun. The last two shows Eaton has been playing a Time guitar. Maybe you can come clarify or say more please Rob? but from what I heard, it was the first guitar Paul Languadoc made for Trey Anastasio in 1982. I believe I've seen it before, but am unsure - Not for a long while if so. Has a wonderful percussive textural presense - He was getting some glorious scuttling crustacean sounds out of it during space. I've always wondered why there isn't a gear forum here...

The quality of playing at this show was unique and powerful.. ultra control - Never going crazy far out on any limbs, but as tight as I've maybe ever seen them. Stranger in particular stands out but the whole show was just right fuckin there. I cannot wait to hear this and Seattle again to compare and see how tangible this stark difference I felt actually is. Except for the cigarettes on the casino floor, I've always loved this venue - Fun place, low stage with no rail, and sounds wonderful. I still can't believe sometimes that the universe is letting us get away with this. Praise DSO and all that keep this going.
