  1. Wish granted...weekend Cap shows webcast on relix/nugs.net https://relix.com/live/livestream-20190517-dark-star-orchestra/ https://relix.com/live/livestream-20190518-dark-star-orchestra/
  2. I wish they'd do an acoustic DSO set early in the day one of these years. BTW - schedule is out. Lil Smokies - Friday late night Bill Strings - Saturday late night I'm gonna need me some caffeine!
  3. My cold got the best of me so I took advantage of my balcony seat for the majority of the show. My ears were working fine though and everything sounded terrific. Things really got cooking from Minglewood on in the 1st set. I really love how DSO incorporates little era details - for example the melodic strumming intro into Bird Song came back in the mid-80's, and also the now atypical jam within Throwing Stones sounds out of place now, but for the mid 80s is exactly what they were doing. It was one highlight after another in the second set. The keyboard snafu during Playin was a visual distraction, but certainly didn't slow the rest of the guys down. There was a decently teased Spanish Jam out of space (not sure if that was show accurate) but was very enjoyable. Between the Vegas webcast and the two socal shows, my DSO jones was filled nicely. Three month countdown till the Jubilee!
  4. Filler was box of rain and white rabbit. Show was was a perfect mix of tight and powerful and loose and jammy. The Bobby rockers were on point. And the jams in Fire and Other One got way out there. A perfect recreation of the amazing show immortalized by Dick. A bit of a mix up in the 1st set list posted above. I’ve got : Bertha good lovin brown eyed El Paso
  5. Finishing up watching. Nice treat for a stay at home sick day. 😀 Will have to go by memory for set 1 set 2 was an easy and amazing list. Yup. 😕 i has to ask folks to not shout over the music during smr as well. Talking is distracting enough. Shouting just sucks I think the jam out of terrapin and the other one were my highlights. Perfect timing on the other one changes and Stu’s bass roll into both of the verses were delicate and thunderous! cold rain>watchtower was thrilling and a great elective start
  7. Agreed! both the jam out of estimated and out of eyes were spectacular. ! and I think it was the mid song jam in estimated that was just huge! Much higher and more laps than usual.
  8. Cats down under the stars elective encore awesome show. So tight and precise. Sounded so so good and the crowd felt locked in as well great start to the weekend

Ohhh, 7/12/90- that’d be a good one. for some reason 3/9/92 has been itching in my brain...😀

    Ojai, CA

Bummer the venue/promoter screwed us. But it didn't put a damper on the evening. Stellar time. Would go back in a hearbeat! Humphrey's & Ojai were two dream settings for music! Return to the west for fall tour? i'm guessing not - see ya in 2019!
  11. Not sure why you can’t buy tix today. I bought mine last week.
  12. ticket went on sale for this yesterday. they are selling 'seats', including seats in the pit. If I recall correct - it was GA. with an open pit. Wonder if that is a concession they had to make to play there again, or if it will be a 'free-for-all' once inside.
  13. it's still on the Libbey Bowl page... http://libbeybowl.org/event/dark-star-orchestra/
  14. I'm banking of them waiting to announce other summer tour shows before losing hope for this one.
  15. My guess is Libby Bowl announced the show with all their other summer shows but DSO wanted to wait for the west coast winter tour to wrap up before announcing. Rob mentioned at San Diego they'd be back at the end of June, so I'm assuming LIbby Bowl and more are lined up.
  16. I knew it was 1974 pretty early but up until they announced the show I was convinced it was an elective in the style of 1974. Nothing unique up until the DarkStar - unless you can call all the “1st set tunes” in the 2nd set unique. The only star/dew I could think of from 74 was 10/18 and I knew that was wrong. I was a bit bummed it was a recreation because now it unlikely to be released on livedownloads. That’s silly 😀 Rob announced they’ll be back at the end of June. Psyched to add to the Ojai show announced by Libbey Bowl. Hooping for Humphreys again 😀
  17. They saved the best for last. An absolute epic show. The highlights were the obvious - playin, weather report, and darkstar > dew. But everything was played fantastically. My brain and body are kinda gooey right now. Will post more as I recall. 😀

  19. No “>”. Full stop...1,2,3 - Phil Bomb and they’re off. 😜 😀😀 One of my favorite things from the show is how much time Rob played organ. Minglewood, Loser, Lazy/supplication, Other one , wharf rat, Saturday night. It seems he usually opts for the piano for these in elective shows but I’m a huge Hammond mark so hearing them this way was awesome.

I had a great time last night. Venue was perfect for the size of crowd - plenty of space all around. Much more open floor than the old HOB. Show was pure fire and fun. Awesome elective set list with one great song choice after another. Jack Straw hit those big notes hard and you knew they were on. Always love to hear 4th street and they seem to play it with just enough frequency. I missed hearing Little Light from the G.Dead and other than a Phil show in 1999 I think this may have been my first. Love the song and they put some awesome slightly spacey touches on it. I was ready for some jamming and Bird Song hit the spot. Big OtherOne-ish jam in there, but most BirdSongs have it. Shakedown got the 2nd set off to a groovy start. I heard that same 70s theme jam as mention above I don't think it was 'tighten up' (from 70s Dancin') but could be... The rest of predrums had plenty of space for jamming and dancing. Post drums while not as mesmerizing as earlier parts still was great and the song choices again were superb. Played right up to the midnight curfew. This show was everything I wanted and needed and MORE. Another superb mid-week OC show Can't wait for Saban and San Diego!
  24. Here's my brief recap... Other than the storm that blew through Friday night, the weather was perfect. Sunny during the day and perfectly cool at night. A brief drizzle during set 2 sunday, but nothing much at all.the event runs so smooth. my 3rd and possibly the best. I stay offsite so don't have any camping info.music was incredible. some of the best dso I've heard. friday and saturday were elective set lists and were both original and on fire. the friday other one and saturday dark star was insane. really inspired playing and hitting all the spots perfectly. tons of patience and letting the jams go where they needed.I could gush on and on about each song, but it was just one big highlight.Sunday was the expected 5/28/77 and was played _perfectly_. More jamming in estimated and playing than anticipated. sugaree and not fade away may have been the most energetic of the night.I really liked the lineup. not the best greensky set I've seen but...oh well. hot tuna acoustic and electric were fantastic! I was happy to hear both twiddle and tauk but neither did much for me. It's obvious song writing is becoming a lost art. both could play well and had a good sound, but are missing 'songs'.Drank a suitcase of Founders all-day ipa, a sixer of Rhinegeist and a couple crowlers of Buckeye Lake porter. The BYOB component is awesome!!!!I love this event so much. Completely worth the trip out from California. Can't wait till next time!
