  1. With all these a$$hole politicians all over the world starting wars I'd love to have heard the Dead (or DSO) cover War Pigs. I think Dino and Rob would have a field days on drums
  2. Well the joint was jumping on this one more Monday night. The band delivered the goods once again. The Deal was the best I've heard in a long time. Eyes was simply divine. The drums were menacing and kept the energy up, and the Other One > Wharf Rat was virtuous. Starting to like the XL venue. Even though it was packed to the gills with moderate skills you're able to work your way to the outside area for some fresh (dank) air. With the outside area having fire pits, a bunch of chairs, and a 200 year old tree growing out of the middle, it's a nice touch. They put a projector out there which was a nice upgrade. Great night, Great band, Great crowd. Unfortunately my bender is over I'm back to the grind starting tomorrow. But 2 shows in 3 days does a body good. However I do have to patch my bones today with a little R&R
  3. Don't forget another Frozen Logger teaser (1st verse) done during Tuning waiting for Rob B. mic to turn on. One hundred thousand tons of Pigpen dropped on to the parking lot of Holiday Valley to go along with a couple tons of rain. Place was a slop fest. In hind sight VIP would have Definitely been the way to go. Tent for the rain and bathrooms that weren't surrounded by 25 yards of quick sand mud. The band delivered 4 sure. 1st set Dew was upbeat and mind blowing. Rob B. and Lisa belted out the pigpen tunes with extra salty Blues. Lisa shined on the harmonica too. Lovelight in the 1st set was a surprise too but due to the format fit in perfectly. Rob B. had some awesome "Wait a Minute!" moments. The Dark Star-->--> end of the show was an extraordinarily out of this world magnificently wonderful spectacular medley. Venue might have to work on some logistics if they have another festival. Looked like they shuttled people in from a mile or so away. A lot of people decided to walk which made the main road packed with people walking like they were going to mecca. Luckily I arrived at the butt crack of dawn to ski the mountain so I got parking right in the lot near the festival which was a lifesaver going back to the car between bands and thunderstorms. Awesome town Ellicotville is. And this guy from PA was dumbfounded to know cannabis is legal in NY and there are dispensaries on every corner. I đź–¤NY.
  4. It's been... 2 Years 3 Months & 1 Day Since Dark Star Orchestra has played Penn's Peak. The venue and fans desperately miss you! Please find it in your hearts to come back around. “I love Penn’s Peak. It’s got one of the best vibes of all the places that we play,” he said. “It’s a beautiful place just to start with – all that wood, and that big room. The energy in that place is just like second to none; especially the night before Thanksgiving when everybody’s home and ready to have a good time. It’s a wonderful tradition.” ~Jeff Mattson 2015
  5. Nice work gumshoe! https://archive.org/details/dso2019-09-26.akg568eb.sos.ford.sbeok.flac16
  6. Came across some killer Legion of Mary April 9, 1975 (Early Show) Bottom Line New York City, NY. Martin Fierro was on saxophone who I wasn't too familiar with. His Wikileaks said he played with Dark Star Orchestra before. It says he died in 2008 so it must have been DSO's earlier days. Does anybody know of any shows they played with him? Also are there any other sax players that toured or played with DSO? I'd love to catch a Without a Net recreation some time! Also that LoM show was a Betty board...some choice stuff
  7. They should have just made this a Netflix series. Like 10 episodes. That way you could have gone through the progression of Jerry/the band. How do they play on condensing 30+ years of touring into a 2-3 hour movie. Plus if you're changing out band members that will also need 15-20mins of setup/explanation. Is Bobby gonna be in the movie with makeup on to make him look 19 again?? or do they just go with a whole cast of actors. If so, they're gonna look funny trying to play instruments and lip singing. I think this is gonna be a hack job
  8. Brit Floyd puts on one helluva show. But if you go prepared to be in your seat at a theater the whole time. It's weird not being up and dancing. A few tunes you can get up but it's like a hockey game, if you're standing the people behind you kind of frown upon it. https://www.britfloyd.com/tour-dates/269-2022-north-america
  9. 31...PA redneck, what no NASCAR questions? Luv that song! I'd love to spit some beech nut in that dude's eyes 'Cause a country boy can survive
  10. I caught the some of the Oakland show this AM on the GD channel. The Masterpiece/West L.A. Fadeaway was pretty hot. I think the one I heard yesterday had the NFA clap from the audiance that seemed to last 15 mins.! I was thinking to myself, that had to be one of the longest NFA crowd chants out there. I wonder if anyone knows the longest documented NFA crowd chant
  11. Scarlet>Fire.... unless the show was in Colorado
  12. Have fun with Ardmore music hall. In order to get in you need a stool sample, you finger printed, need to identify your pronoun, need proof of vaccination and a valid ID matching your vaccine card (which I've read is racist), & must where a muzzle "between bites of food and sips (or gulps) of drinks" I guess they throw you in a pit or something if they catch you with your mask down breathing air in between your gulps. I would imagine they do contract tracing there as well all for you own safety of course. Vaccinated or not vaccinated I don't feel like spending my hard earned money on businesses like that. I feel bad for the bands that play there who I'd like to support and the smaller crowds they might play in front of because of their policies. I don't think it's a sustainable business model on their part but whatever. I've been to many shows there in the past but no thanks unless they change their ways
  13. Splintered Sunlight Jim Thorpe, PA 11/19/21 Mauch Chunk Setlist 1/ Bertha> Greatest Story, Cumberland, Lil Red Rooster, Blow Away, Black Throated Wind, Me and Bobby McGee, Brown Eyed Women, Music Never Stopped 2/ Dancin' in the Streets> Shakedown Street, Playin' in the Band> Uncle John's Band> Drumz> The Other One> Morning Dew> Lovelight> Alligator E/ US Blues
  14. Wow, don't know what to think of this. I would imagine it will be cool either way but really Jonah Hill??? I mean Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison was good, Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash was on point. But Jonah Hill as Jerry?? I just don't see how that works on any level. We'll see but he definitely wouldn't be my first choice https://variety.com/2021/film/news/martin-scorsese-grateful-dead-biopic-jonah-hill-1235115213/
  15. Savage, High Energy, HIGH ENERGY, Hi enERgy, Hi EnErGy. Got to stand on the rail in front of 8 JBL 4 foot tall speakers for 4 hours while DSO just shredded the Pennsylvania night. I had a weird thought about the deer I'd be hunting in the mountains in a couple months. They had to hear the show from there resting spots up on the mountain. I'm wondering what all the wildlife is thinking up on the mountain when the band is just laying down a killer setlist. Had an awesome time. I love how the temperature slowly dropped during the entire show. The start of the show it was sunny and 85. The end of the show breezy and 65. Awesome elective set, hopefully the band will make this a yearly stop. I would vote for a monthly stop but I realize they gotta spread the love all over the country, so once a year is reasonable. Once again the best Dark Star show I've ever seen which is what I say after every show.
  16. Got the day off. Gonna be out fishing on the lake in the AM, then a nice pregame grill out. I'm stoked gonna be a killer show!
  17. I missed DSO had to work Thurs./Fri. I did however make it up to the Peach Festival Sunday. I was able to score a free VIP ticket from a friend. I ended up buying them Dark Star's show from the Peach as a thank you. I listened to some of it online but he said it was killer and the band was so happy to be in front of a crowd. I can attest, there were A LOT of people there on Sun. The seats were pretty filled and the Lawn was packed. It was very refreshing to see everyone having such a great time singing, dancing, and sharing the good vibes. It was my 1st time at the Peach Festival and between the camping, onsite water park, 3 stages, loads of vendors...they were setup pretty good to handle a large crowd. Set 1: Playing In The Band > Eyes Of The World > The Music Never Stopped ; Passenger ; Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues ; Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain Set 2: Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Bird Song > Saint Of Circumstance > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower > drums > space > Sugar Magnolia > Uncle John's Band > Sunshine Daydream Encore: Brokedown Palace > Playing In The Band reprise
  18. Also was at the rain show. If I recall Rob B. keyboard was shorting out with all the water that was dumping on it. Haven't seen DSO in like a year and a half. Way too long. Thanks for the PA stop, very much looking forward to this
  19. Preakness show 2007-05-19 Ram's Head Live Baltimore, MD I was there, smoking show. DSO played 2 nights. We went to see DSO the night before, went to the Preakness the next day #shitshow (horse Curlin won), then another DSO show that night. Epic weekend. Would pay lots of money to re-live that weekend with friends that are no longer around Set One: Race Is On ; Run For the Roses ; Cassidy-> Jam-> Cassidy ; Visions Of Johanna ; Box of Rain ; Lazy Lightning-> Supplication ; So Many Roads ; When I Paint My Masterpiece ; King Solomon's Marbles-> Viola Lee Blues Set Two: Dark Star-> Dancing In The Street -> Scarlet Begonias*-> Fire On The Mountain*-> Drums*-> Space-> The Wheel-> That's It For The Other One-> Believe It Or Not-> That's It For The Other One-> Uncle John's Band -> Dark Star-> Lovelight Encore: That's What Love Will Make You Do ; We Bid You Goodnight Special guest keyboardist Rob Barraco *with Katie on Djamba
  20. Had a great time, albeit the stage being about 500 yards away (Blue lot). We did however have a large TV screen very close to our spot. I ended up have 2 boom boxes up on top of the truck, then turned the truck on and had all 4 doors open with the volume at 11. We made it work. It was nice having the "bar" so close to my spot. The bomb sniffing dogs threw me for a loop upon entering, clearly they weren't drug/booze sniffing canines . They sure did wait a long time to start letting cars in. Then once in the lot we got really no direction from the staff on where to park. Once parked the fuzz was giving the business to a car in front of us. Supposedly they had a tarp or something they wanted to hang. And of course that was against the rules so they had like 6 bike cops arguing with them. Supposedly the patron was being 'a jerk' but I didn't hear much of the conversation. I know the staff who was "following orders" bitched at us at one point because we setup a dangerous lawn chair in front of my truck. I know, I know it wasn't smart on our part, and we endangered everyone around us, so we ended up moving the chair to my truck bed a foot away and that made it a safer environment for everyone and they stopped bothering us. I did make it all the way up to the stage at one point, it was weird because you could hear the band but not the vocals. I guess that's how it was supposed to work. Maybe next time they can setup a "silent disco". I recall seeing it for the 1st time in Bonnaroo. Basically everyone get a pair of wireless noise cancelling headphones and get after it. Would be hard to provide them to everyone, but maybe the more expensive tickets. Or maybe DSO can construct a Partition of Sound, speakers that stand 100ft. tall. I don't know, always looking for upgrades. Hopefully next time it's just back to normal at an indoor/outdoor venue. Either way it was great seeing the band and feeling the vibes., My back didn't hurt all weekend after seeing the show. First day back to work and it's back to pain.
  21. Just watching this on youtube now. Pretty badass. I still ski and usually always have the Dead, DSO, or another random song going in my ear. I still love the sounds of the ski mountains but once you get Jerry in your ear blasting down some fresh corduroy there's nothing's better. Props to Bill Walton too, he did a good job narrating. ⛷️
  22. Great show. The venue was pretty cool too. They gave you bottles of beer (glass) and get this, they let you take them on the dance floor and out in the smoking section! What a novel idea. The smoking section was a cool setup with fire pits and chairs. I would imaging the outside area would be really fun in the summer instead of 10 degrees. The inside was unique. 1/2 the house was setup as a dance floor, the other half had tables, video games, pool tables, and a big screen. Then a small balcony, wasn't up there, looked to be preferred tickets (tables) or VIP area. Lots a seating, decent amount of dance floor. Now onto the band. Damn I figured eh a random Monday night, DSO might just ease into things, keep it low key. Man was I wrong. Awesome elective set. The 1st set felt like a 73' show. It seemed like they played for hours. I definitely didn't go into the night thinking I'd hear a: Pride of Cucamonga>King Bee>Pride of Cucamonga or a Let it Rock and Stone Me. All brilliant surprises. Skip was killing it on vocals. Lisa was once again very soulful on It Hurts me Too and her harmonica solos. I don't think the band knows what "going through the motions" is. The Other One combo was played Wide Fucking Open at Full Throttle. Once again the band did not disappoint. Awesome show, keep it up. The photo attached is how I feel after a DSO show, Full Life Hearts. 2 shows in 6 days does a body good!

Very Salty I slacked and didn't make this show. And it was at a new venue for DSO ta boot, any reviews of the Fillmore Philly from those who went last night? Dancing room, security, amenities, parking lot scene?? Can't wait for Penn's Peak next Wed to get my fix
  24. Ardmore music hall, PA Melvin Seals and JGB (JK on guitar) 10/16/2019 Set 1 Lonesome and a Long Way From Home Love in the Afternoon Stop That Train After Midnight Eleanor Rigby Black Muddy River Evangeline Scarlet Begonias Tangled up in Blue Set 2 Merl's Tune Knockin' on Heaven's Door Ain't no Bread in the Breadbox Russian Lullaby Gotta Serve Somebody My Sisters and Brothers Deal **Opening band was MoonAlice with the T-Sisters.
