  1. If it’s an 8pm show expect them to start b/t 7:58 and 8:15. On shows that will take a while to recreate I’ve seen them go on before start time. Dso is prompt as they want to give fans as close to a 4 hour show as possible and I’ve seen a 4:15 show before. Don’t be late or you will miss songs
  2. Hurts me when I miss a June/July 76 show. Love the setlists and tempo. It’s my fav dead period. It’s when the band was rebirthed and decided this would be their forever and their modern style of play was solidified.
  3. The dead opened 20% of their shows with covers. Half of the deads repertoire was covers. You can’t pick and choose what songs you want to hear or you will be disappointed. They play songs that the dead and Jerry played. If you like the part of the dead not knowing what would be played, the. Dso originals seem to be what you would want. Dso is going deep into the catalog to give as much variation as possible. And vision of Johanna is a song I wish to hear at a show. It’s a fantastic song and the only one that Jerry did well at the end. Dso does around 40% of their shows original setlists and have for years. It’s how they fill the gaps so you don’t get repeats when you see several straight shows. And you actually aren’t experiencing the dead show in a recreation. You are getting the setlist. Dso only plays it in the style of that period. Check the song lengths from the dead show then the Dso show and u will see how it’s not the same. They may take a few unique parts of a few songs but it’s hust Dso improvising like the dead and maybe the same tempo, but it’s nowhere near a duplication. I think that’s one of the biggest misconceptions of Dso is that they recreate the shows.
  4. Within a year you will be looking at the tour page thinking how you can do 2-3 in a row. Once u put together a run, it’s all over and the dead will invade your soul. Dark star is the way to really experience the dead as you will get such a diverse song list played in many different styles and era versions. Dso plays around 150 different dead songs per tour which is mind boggling how they can play them all so perfectly with that many different songs over a 3 week period. Compare that to the Grateful Dead that played 90-120 songs over an entire year. Once you really delve deep into older dead too, you will get so many of the songs that the dead abandoned or never played live, played by Dso. Dso has introduced me to countless dead songs that I’d never heard of. The dead played so many 1-4 timers, it’s hard to really learn all of those songs but Dso will play those rare ones which is really cool. Keep coming back!!
  5. That’s a way to start a tour!!! Weight to open. Cats to finish. Lots of goodness in that setlist!!!
  6. Isn’t the gang getting back together for the norva>anthem? Heard a rumor that Gr8tfulpair is getting psyched for it. Maybe it will be like it’s always sunny “The gang goes to the jersey shore” episode. I did get the idea to sneak in booze in lotion containers from that episode. Charlie just drank the lotion. Either way works.
  7. I’d definitely go if it was close duck
  8. I liked her but having a band is definitely the way to go. Solo piano has limited appeal to me with dead music. I like dead for all that’s happening musically and limiting it to 1 instrument doesn’t do it for me more than a YouTube video.
  9. You obviously need some live music if you think people think negatively of you. Buy that shirt and wear it to a show! U need one bad.
  10. I think they meant if the dead was still touring like 95 and Jerry wasn’t in a drug fog. There’s a large portion of deadco people who think they are brilliant. The dead was brilliant so I’d have zero time for any other band unless they played in my hometown. At shoreline we were hanging with guys who did all Colorado Dso shows and they weren’t happy with deadco’s style either and were looking forward to redrocks but if the dead was still the dead with at least a 1989 Jerry, we’d never be talking on this forum. There were voids to fill when Jerry died. I’d guess most went to phish, panic next and for people who those 2 didn’t cut it, they found Dso, gave up live music or accepted that it was over for them. I think lots of the “it’s over for me” people are now on the deadco train not even knowing about other bands. You’d be surprised how many people at deadco shows had never heard of JRAD. Everyone knew Dso or had heard of them. But no one had heard of JRAD. At Dso shows people are more knowledgeable and had heard of them but at deadco, nope. Everyone around us at the panic Nashville show had seen a Dso show in the last year(of course at panic im talking up Dso). Was strange. But then again people think Mayer is the savior. Vomit. My self confidence couldn’t take having to wear a Mayer is dead shirt. I’d be so embarrassed afraid people would think I’m a poser, b/c if you wear that shirt you sir, are. There’s some of my absolutism. But I don’t have 1 tour friend who would be caught dead in a Mayer shirt relating to dead. Even the gf who likes Mayer’s solo stuff hates him in deadco, but it’s not really fair because she’s a bobby fanatic and not just short short bobby but granddad food in beard bobby. Chicks are weird
  11. I’d say if Jerry was still touring there wouldn’t be National dead acts like Dso and JRAD. You would have lots of local bands but I don’t see with dead touring 70 shows a year if people would follow another one.
  12. 1st jubilee was going on 6yrs ago. How time flies.
  13. Thought this would be a fun thread to talk about any type of live music you saw recently non Dso since there’s a review section for that and to allow people to suggest good bands. I’ll gst it started. Just did a 3-show widespread panic run in Nashville. Was a fantastic time. It doesn’t heal my soul like dead, but I met a lot of cool people and looked around Sunday night and behind me was someone I saw on Dso west coast summer tour. It’s harder rockin jams but jimmy herring is just phenomenal and the new drummer is outstanding. The gf thoroughly enjoyed it even though she recognized maybe 6 songs the whole weekend. Think she really digs the harder rock jams. Thinking back she really gets blown away by loud hard rockin dead jams like TOO. I think I’ll make it a point to add 6 or so panic shows a year to the rotation. Think deadco just dropped out of the rotation. Even with panic not resonating like the dead, we had a better time than at the deadco shoreline shows and at a better price. Think my rotation will be Dso, JRAD and panic, prioritized in that order. The gf used her reasoning skills to get us to add night 3 like “I don’t have to work until afternoon Tuesday” or “tickets are being given away almost on CashorTrade” or “I don’t want to sit at home bored on a holiday”. Of course I’m used to the “wow look at the hotel price I found in Pittsburgh the night of the Dso show” spiel. She actually thinks that works better than “please please let’s do this show.” Started this thread out with a sweet drift.
  14. Back in those days a wreck would have been bad for more than 1 reason. Those were the days before the more discreet “e-cigarettes”.
  15. Glad you are against texting and driving besides the 1-2x I literally saved you from crashing in stop and go traffic when you were texting.
  16. Umm I never said the 3rd one. The 1st was in Nola and memories of that are mush. I prob told u I thought her friend was cute which she was. The 2nd I absolutely did say. The talent was solid there. Admiring the local talent just means I’m still a man. Denying it goes against the laws of nature. Actually I think it was in Iowa where I really gushed about the talent but that was just on the street and post show with the drunk chicks swarming the hitchhikers dog. Who knew Iowa chicks were that hot. And I recall us giving her a 9 hour ride home and after dropping you off in Memphis, I talked some jive about how you were a great guy and she should continue to see u. That you weren’t around for and that was the clincher. You’re welcome.
  17. I’ll take credit where credit is due. Yes I did put in good words when needed and provided the amazing Nola balcony and dazzling conversation to make it look like you had super cool friends and helped seal the deal. You owe it to me to name your 2nd child. Testaverde Augustus. He’s a combo of a football legend and my favorite Caesar. Just call him T.A. for short. It a female name her Snookie Baller.
  18. You would have to have very diverse musical tastes to make use of that. Would only take 65 shows or so to break even. Plus you get primo tix for Lil Baby and posse NBA Youngboy rupaul’s drag race(boing) and rainbow kitten surprise. Where can I sign up.
  19. Is there a vip option for the national? Maybe meet and greet but it’s all GA and can get a tad oppressive. It still holds a special place in my heart as it was the 1st New Years run and I met cosmic mike for the 1st time and made sure goingbacktowhere actually made the shows. It was also the 1st show I took the GF to in 2014 when she was still mostly unfamiliar with the dead. Now she’s like i hope the play an eleven after St Stephen. On that note I already miss my boys. It’s time we go ahead and make a plan for these shows. We should do all 4 but I could live with norva and DC. I’ll handle the hotel bookings

Did you meet his youngest birthed deadhead. His oldest is at college. Both are GD savants. He did well as a papa.

On TIGDH they are playing 50yrvannuvetsaty of 8/23/68 which made me think that in 2019 I bet Dso is going to pull out some 50yr anniversary shows of the 69 shows. I’m predicting 2019 will be the year Dso really busts out lots of 69 shows!!!!!
