The cucamonga sandwich with king bee gave us a hint of what we were in for. The cryptical>lovelight was one insane song. The construction of the jam segments was so unique. Every song in set 2 had a complete deconstruction of the song. You could play just a jam segment of any song in set 2 and no one is guessing what song you are in. Very dark hard psychedelic Jazz. Every song left the structure of the song and went into a fantastic jam segment. It was nuts. The lovelight to finish was psychadelic butter. That hour long nonstop segment was a pure improv masterpiece. Wow. They came at us hard tonight. There was no space in the cryptical, just drums. Been a while since I’ve seen an original not have a space segment. I guess it’s why koritz had a quick pee before cryptical lol. This was a ridiculous show. The song construction was very different or weird even. They created alternate jazz melodies for songs. It was a barrage of I’m in a mood to see how far we can take intersong jams. I’m like well they left GDTRFB. They left every other song, then well lovelight will be more straightforward. Nope. 4 minute crazy jazz jam segment and when they return to the song it’s done completely different than you will ever hear. It was like they were playing it in a different key or something. Trust me it was mind blowing hour segment in set 2. oh and Jeff busted out a new guitar, peanut. It’s like a replica of a guitar Jerry played in 71 maybe? That must have been the inspiration for this 2 drummer early 70s show.

Watching the Hyryder Indy stream right now and the trap is packed. I’m getting a flu shot before New Years indy. Those dirty hippies get me sick every winter. Not sure how I’d chase the rug rat from 8-5 every day if I got sick. He’s currently fascinated with the green power button on the amp and it gets turned off 20x a day. Staying at the aLoft right by the baseball stadium and planned to explore the Battery this weekend but wtf it’s going to be colder than Chicago this weekend. Below freezing in Atlanta on thanksgiving weekend????? Huh. I guess at least it’s not Charlotte in the 20s. Wtf.

Holy shit. Have shows this weekend!!! Gonna be a crazy hectic few days. Multiple thanksgivings in multiple cities then driving an hour away from our destination North early Friday morning to drop the baby at the grandparents then heading south making it almost an 8 hour drive and losing an hour wiyh the time change. The older you get the tougher it is to do a long drive then a show. Even 5 years ago I had no issue popping an 8 hour drive to Cleveland then doing a show. But then I used to do a lot of shows and my cardio stayed up there. Then freaking covid killed my exercise regiment. I mean who wants to exercise without a big PA in front of you. That’s for the birds. See ya Friday oh and this venue looks epic. It’s like a slightly smaller Anthem. Excited to dance on nice wooden flat floors.

I told meili something similar. The ultra die hard deads would have an issue with anything short of jerry reincarnate playing himself. It’s a biopic so it will have fictional dialog etc and we either accept the dramatization or we don’t.

I don’t mind the masks for a few minutes at the doctor but I can’t tolerate them longer unless it’s a cold outdoor show and last year halloween in MD I masked and neck gaitered night 3 it was so cold. I don’t think anyone minded them when it’s 40 and windy. I think they were actually a good excuse to keep our face warm. If you don’t like cold like me, they give you an excuse to stay warmer in winter. I wear a sock cap under 60 but that just seems smart

Not sure anyone is for forced masks at music venues any more MC. It’s a business’ choice what they require in their business but most don’t do mask requirements

we are doing both Atlanta shows. Night 2 are are at the Aloft really close to the venue so should be a good day of fun. That venue is right across from the Atlanta Braves stadium so it’s in a nice area of food and drink. meili booked a hotel for Albany but same day flights barely get us in in time to go to the hotel then the show. I think we may have to do Hyryder New Years at the Trap. She’s become friends with those guys and got the early scoop on the shows. I may end up getting a booster because the trap is so tight with short ceilings. Need to get a flu shot too as almost every New Years run catch the freaking flu and being sick while taking care of a baby is the worst. Packing 2k peeps in the electric factory in the peak of flu season gets me sick almost every time. Before freaking covid I never really thought about all the aerosols from cheering and singing spreading things like the flu and never even contemplated why I’d be sick by last night of the run.

Spring? Summer? New lineup? Fall? The one thing I do know is DSO will continue for many, many years. The musicians will change over time but dark star orchestra will continue playing dead for a while. In 20 years it may be just Dino and 6 other musicians or Dino may take over for Duane Trucks in Panic or Barraco may become Bieber’s keyboardist which is the best gig wink wink(ID verification required). That would be a better birthday party a month late. Is all dead too much dead? Hmm. We saw circles around the sun after deadco boulder and after an hour of that you have your fill forever. Sorta like dead Muzak. It’s a cool background in an elevator but a whole show, ehhh. I think I remember PG talking us into going and she stayed like 15 minutes and split. We made it like 45 mins and was like later.

A 1 off show seems strange considering the costs to truck their shit out there unless they are on their way to cali and figure the truck has to go through there anyway so might as well do a show. But if they were going to do say 2 boulder theater shows connected they would maybe announce it with these? we are looking for our 50/30 birthday weekend in March and was hoping we’d get lucky with a 3 day weekend of dso. Panic is doing 3 shows on her 30th in Vegas which seems fun even though it’s not dead so not as much a crank turner but it is Vegas where you are cool to do what you want as long as you don’t drive drunk at 156mph and kill a dog. Oh and a person.

I hope everyone who’s never been there got to go. That place is a GD museum. Floor to ceiling posters and memorabilia, literally. Every inch of that place has dead posters and art and it’s mostly all for sale if the offer is right. A well timed kitchen fire at Beonkey’s that didn’t damage any art helped set this place up
