If you take that 7/4-5 slot you have to sell it out. I don’t know how ticket sales are going to be but have to assume they are down a bit. Not sure if DSO could command those 2 days and would think Red Rocks would go with someone they know could sell it. Now say if you do DSO then JRAD or some combo of 2 dead bands you have a shot at it if they both agreed not to book a competing show the other ones night. That could be cool. On Dead50 weekend, DSO sold out July 2nd before it started and we did the July 3rd Dso show and it was empty b/c everyone was at dead50. Then we capped the weekend with the July 4 show which was so fun. Another issue about July 4th is it’s on a Monday. That would be rough to pull off a sellout.

Just announced. Playing in the cave. Personally I like the outdoor amphitheater better. Indoors is packed and sound bounces everywhere. But….this is the weekend before Jubilee which makes it tough for the regulars to be gone the weekend before we head out Thursday for 4 days for jubilee.

I’ve never really liked dressing up. Not a fan of halloween at all. Feels too stressful. We were with Dr B one weekend and he has the most amazing closet of super cool vintage gear and was trying to give us stuff to wear. Unfortunately I was just a bit larger of a size to wear any of it. Having a 6’5” wingspan being a shot blocking machine, anything less than XL will result in being ripped at the seams like the Hulk. There was a vintage scarf, but I thought I’d be just a bit over the top and my fragile self esteem couldn’t take it.

You’ll be easy to find. Most of us wear business casual all the way up to black tie on the final day of shows.

I made a quick map markup on my phone. I think VIP RV is behind the vip camping but regular RV is where pretty much everyone goes with RVs. You have a completely flat spot in regular RV. We used to do regular GA camping but you have to pack your gear around 500 feet. You are like 200 feet from the stage and super close in GA camping but packing gear up and down is a pain in the butt as you get older. Vip camping lets you camp next to your car but it’s a longer walk(maybe 700 feet to the stage). You are still close but not GA camping close. You get showers in Vip. I always used to say screw a shower, but a post show shower with hot water can be pretty freaking euphoric. edit: Ignore the pit pass stuff near the stage. This is a pic from another festival. The whole area is GA near the stage.

For RV just buy a regular Rv pass. You will be at top of the hill. No need for VIP RV. Regular is where everyone goes. It’s a good flat spot right outside the fence and there will be a ton of regulars there. you buy 1 RV pass for the vehicle and 2 festival passes. The RV pass is just for the RV. The festival pass is what will get you in and out of the venue.

It’s Friday, Saturday, Sunday, wake up and get the fuck out as early as possible Monday which is usually 9-10am. Year 1 and 2 we straggled out around 12:30. Now once the shit is over we GTFO to get home as early as possible. In 1 the last 4 years I have woken up at 11am on Monday hours later than planned to an empty lot and all our friends gone. Tarp city with 15 people became our tent with several tarps on the ground with workers saying better start packing up. Made sure we got properly woken up for the police profiling so we could tell them to suck it if they pulled us over. If you don’t know, the state troopers have a spotter at the jubilee interstate entrance Monday and you have a good shot to get pulled over miles down the interstate, so don’t drive dirty post jubilee. Every year we see multiple cars with cops emptying backpacks on the side of the interstate. Have your fun 3 days and don’t be stupid because they don’t fuck around and we know peeps who got arrested and a lawyer actually came on forums to talk about illegal police profiling. Can’t repeat this enough. Don’t leave jubilee with a bowl. Toss it in the trash on Monday and wait until you get home. Cheers.

Keystone is Canadian oil so it’s not technically being independent and it was years away from transporting Canadian oil. We are energy independent currently if we nationalized all oil or banned oil exports. But we export lots of oil and import lots of oil. We do need to cut off Russian imports for sure though. I thought your fearless leader wanted us to be best friends with Russia and leave NATO. Why would we stop buying Russian oil from the great guy Putin who admires trump so much. I guess his trump Moscow hotel is dead forever now so he may change his tune even though he was praising Putin as genius the other day. There will be a fierce primary fight as whoever gets the GOP nomination will have a cake walk into office. You know Zelensky hates Trump after Trump tried to blackmail him to get that military aid money which caused impeachment 1, but he can’t criticize Trump or risk Trumps wrath. Biden is incompetent. Trump is corrupt. I don’t want to see either in 3 years. Both made the mistake of coddling the fringes of the party when those would never vote the other way anyway when both should have been going to the middle. Biden miscalculated badly that he could keep moderates and liberals on board. Trump did it for cheers to feed his ego and tried to force the party too far right and lost the independents.

And we export much of our oil to others instead of keeping it all home. Everyone buys from everyone in case a supply dries up. American private companies stop producing at many sites under $80pb. Many will start pumping as the price goes up. During the pandemic when the price fell, many stopped pumping. Saudi Arabia has a break even price at around $15 a barrel which is lowest in the world. In the US it can be anywhere from $50-120pb as a break even depending on how it’s removed from the ground. We are the worlds largest oil supplier. I don’t like that Biden isn’t encouraging more production, but we are producing as much as any time in history so it’s not like the misinformation that Biden is stopping companies from pumping. Florida has banned all offshore drilling near them so it’s not like Biden is stopping pumping in the Gulf. I think he’s been slow to respond to many issues and is a pretty weak guy but the energy issue isn’t caused by him. Any country who only gets their energy from 1 source can be held hostage. It’s why everyone buys from everyone to protect national security. But I do agree we need to stop buying from Russia after we have the replacement for those 500k barrels a day, but note it’s oil companies buying it not the president.

I think Putin made a massive miscalculation on the western response as well as the Ukrainian resistance. Russia is pretty much just a big gas station. Russia’s GDP is only around 8x what Kentucky’s is. Their economy is already beginning to tank and they can’t afford any protracted conflict. Even Switzerland abandoned 100 years of neutrality to freeze assets. Putin screwed the pooch and there’s no turning back which is the scary part. It’s obvious that the NATO handheld weaponry we distributed there can take out Soviet era systems they are still using and more is on the way. If Russia didn’t have nukes they would be pretty much irrelevant on the world stage. The people in Russia are going to feel the pain soon and that’s when the police and Putin lose control of the situation. Being kicked out of the World Cup will not be popular with the populace.

I won’t drive cross country again like we did a few years ago. Too old for an 18 hour day on the road. I’ll fly and rent a car but getting from Kentucky to Palm Springs in 36 hours almost did me in. That counts sleeping. Once we made it out there it was gravy but that drive....

My only complaint about jubilee is the late night bands. Galactic and Boombox would be so much better after DSO. Ive seen galactic several times in Nola and once at a 2am start time which is a good start time for them lol. A psychedelic band should follow dso. Bluegrass is more of a daytime thing not late night and once electric music starts you don’t want to go back to accoustic. Boombox is pretty trippy and would make more sense for the mindset that many are in. You can always turn down the volume a bit if that’s the issue but after dso there are very few who actually stay down in the main area with the exclusion of 2019 when Billy Strings played so dropping the volume wouldn’t have much of an impact as people can just move a bit closer. Most other fests have late night psychedelic music areas for those that want a bit more. Looking at the lineup I’m guessing that Yonder and Rumpke will play the 1230-2am slot Friday and Saturday nights. Melvin would also work after dso but guessing he will be an afternoon gig or the perfect Sunday noon band.

The mission ballroom looked packed in the pics especially in comparison to the covid crowds I’ve seen lately. That amazing Coca Cola Roxy in Atlanta was at maybe 10% capacity Friday night. Someone on stage joked for people to bring a friend to the Saturday show. Skip said can you all bring 5. That mission looked like old days and a 3 day run there would be cool. Curious how packed the Anthem is gonna be. That place is the crown jewel of the new music venues but holding 6k means there’s gonna be some room to boogie.

If only those Ukrainians would stop invading and attacking Russians, the peace loving Putin wouldn’t need to send peacekeepers into the region. The Russian people are very prosperous because of Putin’s leadership and how he makes sure the wealth goes to the middle class and not to his cronies. It makes him unpopular how he fights for the little guy at the expense of the rich who want to fleece the country of their natural resources. Putin lives very modestly on a salary of around 100k a year so the people can flourish unlike rich politicians like Bernie Sanders who bought a 500k lake house and lives like a king. There are silly rumors that Putin is the worlds richest man but he just laughs off the lies of terrorist opposition party members who murder people constantly. I hope this conflict can end without too many innocent Russians getting killed by Ukrainian aggressors.
