Here’s what my thoughts are on the tour schedules being a bit different than pre pandemic. During covid with everything up in the air, DSO booked a lot more festivals than they usually do. With those July Vermont gigs it forced them to be up north. They also committed to daze between a while back forcing them out to cali. I think Tour is going to become more normalized after they get back to adding a fest that will work at say the end of a tour like summerfest than the festival being the scheduling driver of the tour. The Midwest pretty much got the shaft b/c of the festivals dso committed to a long time ago. It’s gonna be pretty awesome when we get to add 2 days of DSO at Chris’ house right after the black mountain weekend in a few years. It would be the perfect time…..or we get DSO to play the Wednesday and Thursday right before BM since he’s only 30 minutes away. That’s the ticket!!! They could be in Asheville area 4 straight shows so missing a day off Wednesday for a private party would be no biggie. Let’s do it in 2023 Chris!! I’m sure we could pull 100 friends who do the BM shows to pitch in. Semi private 2 day fest. Includes primitive camping. Recommended donation 100-300 pp. vip comes with a daily shower. Ultra vip comes with an inside bedroom and runs 500 pp double occupancy. The ultra VIP experience includes a short private show of barraco playing jazz keys for meili singing Ella and for the finale they duet “dream a little dream of me”. I’m sure barraco can pull out a Louie Armstrong falsetto.

I heard from a reliable source that even though this has weird stuff like copyright 2021 Swati Music, that this is actually from a 2004 DSO show from the Norva with Scott on keys. The other day meili said dso has a 2nd song besides the talking heads cover they did for a tribute album on Apple Music that was just released. So at least part of the mystery solved. The 2021 swati music is still a mystery plus there’s a picture of a staircase as the cover art.

Initially I thought it was a Brent vocal track with DSO doing the music, but it doesn’t sound as much like Brent later on like the falsetto was stressing the singers voice but it’s pretty dead on Brent’s voice. Someone solve the mystery!!!

Lol I know the song and who Brent is. It’s projected to be 90 High 70 low at the caverns next weekend. May just eat my camping pass and get a hotel. It’s 90 degrees now at 11am and it’s too hot to get a cig outside.

I know it was rude. I just went to Apple Music and listened to most listened to songs. Maybe that means America likes the bad stuff, but the pop country crossover stuff he made isn’t listenable. I get you need to make that nut when you can as a musician and he went pop country to make it like Hornsby and Winwood went A/C to make the cheese.

So there’s a 2nd DSO song on Apple Music: We can run but we can’t hide. It was released 10/6/21. There’s no album associated with it. No details. I thought it was a dead song mislabeled at 1st b/c it sounds like Brent. It’s not Barraco singing unless he developed a serious falsetto. Anyone know what this was from?

So I’m familiar with the name Marty Stuart, but I went to check out his music. It’s very basic. Sort of pop country, but very very basic. As basic as I could ever imagine. Give yourself 5 minutes scrolling through his biggest songs. Worst music I’ve heard in a year. Meili said she’s embarrassed she saw him now. I feel like I’m being mean but it’s really that bad

We did derby every year in college. Of course you try to sneak in large quantities of booze. We had it down to a science. Get 2 half gallons of orange juice in a solid white container. Don’t touch the top seal or cap. Cut the bottom and make a slit. Empty the OJ and fill with vodka. Then super glue the bottom slit and good to go. The cooler had 4 2 liters of sprite. 4 frozen lime-aid concentrates. 2 bags of ice and the 2 half gallons of vodka. Mix it all together and you have a cooler of bullfrogs. Worked like a charm until the last derby year we did. Security opened all the seals and even opened peoples 2 liters and smelled them. They had this huge dumpster full of booze they confiscated and ours went into it. We were so depressed. We were poor college kids with $40 in our pocket for bets lol. We had 1 pint of vodka we managed to get in and could afford 1 drink at derby lol. Luckily we were already buzzed by 9am and ate a few shrooms, but we never recovered from losing our booze. I got arrested at 1 derby for disorderly conduct. After derby it’s crazy drunkenness and people were launching food and drinks everywhere. A bag of Doritos lands near my feet. I pick it up and toss it across the infield. I look behind me after and see 8 cops patrolling. He told me to drop my drink and put my hands behind my back. They walk you out onto the turf course and all the way around to the paddy wagons. Court is 8am next morning. I remember my speech to the judge to this day. “Your honor. I’m a graduating senior from the university of Kentucky. My graduation was this morning at 8am which I did not get to attend. I spent 8 hours in jail for throwing a bag of Doritos into the air. I ask that you credit me for time served and dismiss the charges.” The prosecutor said they had no objection. Case dismissed. I was flying so high I face planted into a locked door. The bailiff said try this one. The judge and prosecutor were cracking up. My graduation was Sunday at 8am but I wasn’t going to walk anyway lol. edit: forgot the funniest part. When they get me to the police transport, one cop asks what they got me for. He said “possession of Doritos with intent to distribute”. Not kidding. He actually said that. Lol

That superfecta was nuts. You need 10 friends putting in $100-200 each for a shot to win that and that’s only giving you like 8 horses. A $1 8 horse superfecta is $1680 to bet it lol. A 12 horse box is 11,880.00 for a $1 box.

I wanted to go to the Ryman last night but somehow I ended up being the babysitter as meili went with a tour friend who was already down there for the whole run who had an extra. He was joined by the following guests Bobby weir les Claypool Marty Stuart ronnie McCoury nice guest list lol.

i know Chris was thinking about that at his place. I think you should shoot for a local dead band unless you really wanted to drop 40k. The distance the bus and semi would have to travel would be an issue. You’d need an electrician to set up the needed power. You’d need to rent a good PA system. Cotter said the venues have to provide the power source and the PA. We’ve got the rest. I’d guess the electrical would run you a few K. You’d need to build a stage. PA rental could be a few K. You don’t want dso playing through 2 portable PA’s on a pole. i think Hyryder is around 2500 a night or were pre pandemic before they got a lot bigger, but not sure if they can travel more than 5 hours and still do a Friday night show as they have jobs. Could probably get them to do a Saturday night then a Sunday afternoon show so they could get back to work on Monday.

My pick, cyberknife decided idiotically to keep pace with the 21.78 sec 1/4 mile(2 furlongs) pace which is insane for a 10 furlong race. As soon as I saw that quarter time I told everyone I was watching with that he’s not going to win. At the 1 mile mark i said someone’s coming from behind because these leaders are cashed. Can’t believe the last second entry and ultimate long shot got there. He had a charmed trip and perfect race. If the pace wasn’t so ultra fast early he wouldn’t have had a shot. Can’t believe a few of these expert jockeys who raced in 5 races just today tried to catch up to that early frantic pace that looked like a 7 furlong sprint. It’s just like an athlete that chokes in a championship game. Those jockeys on the front runners didn’t save anything for the end. It’s always fun to watch 20 horses race at once. Only in the KY Derby do you see that many horses race it out.

In KY everyone knows how to place bets. We used to have a quarterhorse track in Paducah. Went to keeneland and a UK football game every year in October growing up. That was before they flexed game times. UK always had night games during keenelands 3 week session. But then that all ended with monster SEC broadcasting contracts. Keeneland in the day. Go eat. Football game. That was as good a Saturday as you can have in October

you do go stealth mode but did say hi at the cincy show. With all the covid stuff it had been years since I’d seen a few of you and completely forgot what the peeps who I don’t do tour with looked like.

The problem with having a good season is you pay for it in the draft with late picks. I look at it like if you make the playoffs you will get worse respectively to the rest of the league. That is unless you traded away a player for good picks. Anything after the 3rd round is fools gold. I follow the draft a lot. The shot of playing more than 4 years is slim. Past the 4th round it’s a Hail Mary. For those 20+ UDFA’s just picked up, maybe 1 will make the team this year.

If you are a Jets or Giants fan you have to feel giddy about the draft. The giants may have gotten the best DE and OT. That’s a massive upgrade. The jets got a star WR in Garrett Wilson and a star CB in sauce Gardner in the top 10. Unfortunately my cowboys picked a project at OT in the 1st who led all of college in penalties committed playing at Tulsa. It’s not like he had to defend against Georgia guys rushing the QB in the AAC. On that note if you wonder why Georgia won the national championship, they had 5 defenders drafted in the 1st round. 7 total by the 3rd and 15 total players drafted which is the most ever from 1 team. They were so deep their backup DT was drafted at 28. A backup drafted 1st round. I saw someone joke they would give up their whole draft for georgias defensive guys in the draft. I’m like I bet you’d give up a whole draft for 5 1st rounders and the number 1 overall pick lol.

taking a baby to Europe at 18 months? That flight would be torture. Everyone would hate us and we’d hate it. We have to split the trip to the beach over 2 days because more than 8 hours and he’s a mess. He won’t sit still 30 secs at home. He’s wild. No way he could sit in my lap on a plane for 8 hours. You know better than anyone, you can’t really enjoy a show when you have to watch kids. You guys hardly get to finish a show when you have them. It seems like work and I tour for fun. In a few years when he’s older, we can do more stuff but it is what it is now. I don’t miss not seeing as many shows. Mei misses it more than me for sure. She wanted to take Jonathan to the caverns but talked her out of it. No way he’s gonna sleep in a tent and the shows at 8 and that’s past his bedtime. He would be a terror and wake everyone at camp up several times not being in his own bed. My mom’s keeping him Saturday and we are driving down for night 2. I was hoping somehow dso would have 2 Wilmington shows between the 2 Vermont shows July 4th week and we’d bring him and my parents as that place has 6p start times but shows are staying up north it looks like.

Looks like a blast. Just won’t be away from the little boss for 2 weeks at this age. The last 3 show run I felt guilty leaving him and he didn’t want to sleep for my mom. She aged 3 years in the 3 days she kept him not sleeping through the night away from home. Are you bringing taping gear? That would be tough to lug around and could see it becoming like a job lol.

nice. Shooting for them all. Thats like an iron man triathalon. Too bad the 3 day break isn’t mid tour instead of after show 1 when you don’t need it. Are you guys booking a hostel/hotel every night or using the train as a hotel a few of the nights? I knew a few of those legs were going to be tight getting to the next one. I’ll just live vicariously through you guys. Is it you and your brother doing the run?
