Bonnaroo starts tomorrow. The highs in Nashville are supposed to be 99 Thursday and Friday. Screw that. Plus you have to walk minimum half a mile from camp to the music venue if not a full mile if you don’t get there early. They have 2 air conditioned medical tents where they put an IV bag to rehydrate you. The medical guy said an IV gets them back to normal pretty quick. Hell I think I’d just go say I’m overheating and get the IV fluids. Maybe go early AM to recover from the previous night. Hey bro. Could you toss a little morphine and some B12 in the bag to get rid of the hangover. Can you just leave this hooked up and I’ll pour ice water in the bag as needed. Bonnaroo is set up as a young persons fest with the brutal heat being end of June in the south and the ridiculous walk to camp. You could pay $4k for super vip to get within a few blocks if you like to throw money away or you are one of those types who need to feel important. There is actual music there though vs Coachella with no one I’ve ever heard of and only 20% are influencers at bonnaroo vs the majority of Coachella’s crowd.

It’s 100 degrees out and hockey is still on. That tells you the season is way too long. On that note I’d be at a cold hockey game right now if I could. I can’t get it under 78 in my house right now in 99 degree heat. It slowly started to creep up from 72 this morning to 75 midday and now it’s 78…..

annie are you ok. Are you ok annie.

So meili was watching the Tonys the other night as she’s did a lot of musical theater in the day and now I can’t get smooth criminal out of my head. I keep singing. “Annie are you ok. Are you ok Annie”. Fuck. It’s on repeat in my head.

i think half the country has had covid in the last 3 weeks. Everyone’s doing home tests so the official numbers are way lower than in the days where you did drive thru testing. order your 8 free tests here. It’s a simple auto fill form. https://special.usps.com/testkits

Anyone seen the video of this show. I saw video tapers on night 2 and 3 but it was a bit wet night 1 so can’t seem to find any.

thats what they said Friday but on Saturday they said too much of everything is just enough so I’m confused.

i think the neighbors moonshine got to me during night 1. 1st time I’ve puked at a show since 95 at the pyramid in Memphis at 23yrs old(not the last time I puked, but last time puked at a show). Got overheated and boom. It sort of drained me Saturday as well. By Sunday I was alive and kicking again. I did get up front to watch Scott Friday and by d/s I was on one of those comfy couches in VIP enjoying the rest of the show. We discovered that the VIp deck got abandoned by set 2 so that was the dance spot for me Saturday night and for a few of us on Sunday. We had a 20’x20’ area for 5 of us on Sunday on nice wood vs the freaking rocks. The VIP deck is a clutch spot. Great sound and tons of room once the chairs are gone.

i think you now know that if you only see dso for 1 run all year it has to be jubilee. There’s nothing like it for dead fans. If I knew you weren’t gonna be there, as i just assumed it you being 2 hours away, I’d have hounded you into submission. It’s the best place on the planet Memorial Day weekend just like Frenchman’s st in New Orleans is the best place on the planet last weekend of April through 1st weekend of May.

Some thoughts on this years fest. 1. Vip was a muddy disaster zone. 3 straight weekends of fests left it with little grass if any. We camped in 6” tire tracks. In our 30’ space we had to drive through our tent area and pull to the line then camp where wed driven over. They have to figure out a better system. If that was always car camping inside they could make a driveway down but most fests there don’t have inside camping so they can’t make a permanent vip. Personally I want to buy an RV spot and camp on the gravel since VIP was unliveable. GA on the other hand was nice and grassy b/c no cars drive in the bowl. You could tell who was vip and who was GA by looking at their shoes. Vip had mud to their knees and GA had maybe slightly dirty shoes if that. Luckily for legend valley they have no shows for 3 weeks and can work on the grounds. 2. It was awesome to be back at a real fest. We had an amazing time. The second we left our camp, everything was perfect. 3. That new PA is freaking insane. It’s the Meyer Sound Panther array. Top of the line large format PA. Smaller footprint than the previous meyer sound array but with the same kick. Super clean sound. Can’t beat the sound at jubilee. When Cotter has the perfect tools he can make magic and the sound was that. There was no ear fatigue at all even though the sound was massive. 4. The staff and security are so super friendly. I forgot how friendly everyone is that works there. It’s generally the opposite of any big indoor venue where they look at concert goers as suspects to be watched. Not the case at all at jubilee. These guys and gals are doing 16 hour shifts. I was like wow that’s a shift. One lady said she actually works the fests as a side job b/c she loves it and not for the 48 hours of pay. One had a lightning bolt hat and was grooving near vip. Loves jubilee b/c there’s no hassles and the crowd is super nice plus he loves dead. Friendly staff really does make a difference. You really don’t see many smiles from security at the caverns. The big sheriff at the caverns was threatening a guy playing guitar outside the gates to scram or he was going to jail. Hell even the sheriffs driving around at jubilee weren’t looking to get anyone. There’s such a vibe difference at jubilee. At the caverns there are 3 security inside packing weapons on their hips. Wtf. I could prob go on and on. The disgusting camp probably only lowered the happiness factor to a 98/100. It’s time to make jubilee a 6 day festival like lost lands at legend valley where people can come in on Tuesday. Or just add a pre-party day with just dso playing at night. I have to think you could get at least 1k to add an early entry show for an additional $75 or so. Let’s make this trip longer!!!

The Ryman is my least favorite indoor venue. It is impossible to dance in those church pews. The back of your leg is touching your pew and the front of your leg is touching the back of the pew in front of you. If you are unlucky enough to be in one of the back 8 rows on the 1st floor you cannot see the PA’s which means you can’t hear them and you get your sound from these tiny little speakers hanging from the balcony which is maybe 10 feet above your head. The only place to dance in the Ryman is in the balcony behind the seated area. That place is made to sit and watch music. The sound is great in the balcony area. There’s a tiny bit more leg room in the balcony vs downstairs where there’s none. I saw Bobby there and was 2nd to last row lower level and I had to duck down to see his face as the balcony obstructed my view being 6’4”. Ever since that show every time at the Ryman we just go upstairs. Saw panic accoustic there with Billy strings joining them. That was cool. Then Billy came upstairs to watch the rest of the show and he was hounded walking to his seat. I’m like let the guy enjoy the show for god sakes. Panic was playing and he was surrounded by people trying to take pics with him with music playing, not even during a break. Geez. Price of stardom I guess. The furthest I’ve gone as a star fucker was nodding my head to Phil who was 5 feet away during jazz fest in a small club. Peeps need some peace. That shit helped contribute to Jerry’s death.

it’s a nice novelty but it’s always wet and dripping from the ceiling and that board DSO uses has no replacement. It’s a one of a kind. Cotter protects that thing like a newborn. Dew and condensation is not its friend. He takes it apart and cleans it a lot to keep it alive, but I think there were only 25 of those made or something like that. Maybe it’s 25 left in existence. Conversations over time become blurred but the overall take was that it can’t be replaced. and that’s not even mentioning stage equipment. They were finishing up making a permanent outdoor stage when we were there. Outdoor seems the way to go.

At jubilee I spoke with someone associated with the band who said they personally never want to play indoors there again. It’s nasty and wet and no ventilation. I have 0 interest of going indoors there again myself. Got sick as a dog doing Melvin and jgb there and half our friends caught covid and had to miss jubilee. Nice to know you caverns.

To answer my question it looks like Touch had been played 20 or so times, throwing stones around 30 and it was the 13th bucket and was around the 4th or 5th time all were played same show. In this digital age, we can only find this stuff in a book. Weird.

What’s crazy is with the most insane dance songs the dead does, music, dancin, Sampson and HSF all in 1 set it felt like we had no time to catch our breath but there was a slower dancer in between each. It felt like it was continuous 140 bpm heart rate but I guess we got just a slight reprieve. After the show I said wow no ballads that whole set lol. That’s what it felt like. Was a perfect night too. What a way to cap off jubilee. I’ll ride this high for the whole week. Now that jubilee is over I feel like I’m in great shape to do jubilee lol. All those times clinging the hill plus the monster cardio workouts but nothing to use it on. Jubilee should be a whole week!!!! Maybe DSO and 1 other band Monday-Thursday then the full fest starting Friday. I’m in!!!

That was a smoke show. Curious how many times they had played bucket and throwing stones at this point. No deadbase on me so no clue. They also played touch. 3 songs that wouldn’t see an album for 4 years. i was thrown off by Lisa on stage. I don’t remember seeing her on stage besides doing pig harmonica in a all boy show so I was like 80’s style original with Lisa harmonizing and didn’t think it was a show. That 2nd set was crazy. Epic show. Dso crushes the 80’s. That Touch was a bass lead song. Interesting twist with skip leading the way with the guitars being 2nd fiddle for most of the song. The band sounded so tight. Was an epic show.

Scott!!!!! Sml make an appearance on the boards for all your fans!! Luckily stardom didn’t go to his head and he made an appearance at our camp site and we talked about the show. He rocked it. Full Bobby rock star on sugar mags. He’s got some chops too and has Bobby down and that’s a hard guitar to play. There are tons of Jerry’s but not many Bobby’s. The finger dexterity to play all those chords is crazy. Love you brother!!!! Proud of you!!

So if it’s anyones 1st time at jubilee you need to know 1 thing. 1. Never leave jubilee with anything that can get you in trouble. Throw your bowls in the trash before you leave. The state troopers have a spotter and they pull over dozens of people a year Monday morning on the interstate. They only pull over festival goers. We see them ransacking peoples cars. We’ve had friends get arrested the day after jubilee. Leave it behind. Don’t be stupid. On a busy interstate, 3 miles down the road a trooper pulls out of the median behind me going the speed limit. Stays on my tail for 5 minutes then veers off—-Spotters at the interstate entrance. Several years we’ve seen 3 cars pulled over going east with cops emptying backpacks at every car. 2019 was the only year I didn’t see this of my 8 years. If they pull you over they are gonna find it. Have your 3 days of fun and freedom and toss it Monday morning. cheers

This hurricane on land just isn’t freaking moving. Looks like it could be rainy Friday or it may not rain at all. Depends on if this 1500 mile wide blob happens to be over us or just a small band going through. Luckily it will be gone Saturday and should just be light rain Friday even though could be all day light rain.

vegas jubilee is being planned for late June next year. It’s gonna be on this gorgeous patch of desert. No rain for sure. Heard there’s gonna be a danceathon from 10am to 8pm. Whoever keeps dancing for 10 straight hours wins a Sports bottle and a coozie and an ambulance ride!!

There we go. I added a message to put the setlist at the top lol.

Bill wrote it down. I thought it was a fools errand as it was obviously a jgb show from prob 76-78. It was just dead on that era until the 1st set encore of Box. Some dude in the bathroom was like I want a terrapin. I said bro you have a 0 percent shot of that. This is a Jerry band stow. That was right before Box so the chances became higher than 0%. 1 guitar terrapin would be different for sure. Besides hard to handle and box everything played was played b/t 76-78 live. They gave barraco and skip a chance to sing. Can’t wait until Dino busts out vocals on a The Band song and has Levon dead on!! Levon was actually on a top 10 boy name list. The issue was everyone was like oh Elton John. I’m like no. Levon helm!!!! So that name got nixed
-
Sorry bro. We got lucky last night that we had Jeff, skip, barraco and Dino to drum. Anything less and there wouldn’t have been a show.
