see you in the Lou. We’ve got 2 cars of friends coming up from KY. Should have had more than 6 coming up but a few had to back out. I wanted to bring up a dozen. Usually for the St. Louis shows I round up 8+ friends but peeps get older and lazier including me. Didn’t feel like the 6 hour chicago drive for 1 show. Did Milwaukee instead of Chicago so it works out.

the 12 team playoff will fix some of this. Tennessee has the most brutal schedule in the country and then you have a team like Illinois that could get to the conference championship who doesn’t play a top 25 team all year. A few years ago all 7 teams in the SEC west were top 25 FPI. Ohio state is always a legit team but they pretty much just have to win the Michigan game or Penn state if Penn state is decent that year. It’s almost worst in the ACC. Wake forest? NC State?? Come on. Those teams don’t have the talent to battle decent teams every week and then you get a monster blowout and you’re like umm losing by 25 to a 3-5 team?? Yeah they are really the 7th best team….. 12 team playoff fixes all that crap.

If they play the Pabst opera house, it’s a must see show. The riverside is a beautiful theater but the Pabst is immaculate. The railings have red felt. The carvings on the ceiling are amazing. You will spend 30 minutes gawking at the walls and ceilings. On the 2nd balcony you are looking down at over a 45 degree angle. Your stomach will be in your throat at times. There is no seat in the venue I believe more than 70 feet from the stage and the accoustics are perfect.

Dude Bama misses a FG to beat tennessee. LSU went for a 2 pointer to win. Bama would be at least a TD favorite over everyone but georhia and OSU and those would be Pickems. You can’t compare the record of Illinois with Bama even though they are the same. Bama could easily be undefeated but they aren’t. The 12 team playoff would be bad news this year as no one would want to have to play Bama. OSU was one of the best 4 teams a few years they didn’t make the playoffs but 1 loss plus weak strength of schedule didn’t get them in. Doesn’t mean they weren’t one of the best 4 teams b/c they didn’t make the playoffs.

Just got home and decided to put on Hyryders Saturday stream on FB. 2nd song was hey pocky way. I told meili that this was the 1st song I ever saw DSO play and I didn’t really know it. Then I realized how many dead songs that dso exposed me too. So many 1-5x played songs that are almost impossible to know unless you listen to every dead show multiple times. But dso gives us that deep dive. Now there are a few deep dives like keep on growing that I don’t mind sinking to the bottom, only b/c I think I caught like 8 of the 1st 10 ever played, but so many songs were learned through dso. Hyryder also goes crazy deep and teaches people lots of dead.

the sport is cyclical but programs like Texas, Georgia, Florida, LSU, OSU, Clemson, Florida state are capable of assembling monster rosters. Alabama could be mediocre for a few years but they will always be a true top 20 team at the very worse. They lost to TN b/c they missed a FG and LSU went 2 point conversion. Alabama won’t likely make the 4 team playoff but they will be better than several who do. Our hotel was 200 feet from the venue so at setbreak we hit the hotel. Walk in and it says OT. Got to see everT play of that OT. Nutty finish. Was awesome. Got to watch most of the 1st half before show. Lsu has a lot of talent like always and night games in Death Valley are about as hard w place to play as any. It was a great setbreak for us lol. Cocktail and end of game then back to show 2 mins before dso took the stage you had 17 4-star freshmen come in and the 6th ranked class. You actually had a better class than Clemson.

Jack Straw Speedway All over now Althea Stuck inside Mobile A strange man Easy to slip Help slip Tangled Box Scarlet Fire NFA D/S Fantasy Mojo hand Dear prudence NFA reprise Piece of my heart Elective but no show announcement. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them not announce a show or elective. Assumed there was gonna be a double encore b/c of that.

The crowd wasn’t massive but no one left early and everyone was getting down like always in Milwaukee. The best description is like a sold out crowd then at drums 1/3 of the people leave but the ones that are left now have room to get down and are like good riddance. Now we can get down. That’s Milwaukee. Love this town.

If I remember the conversation correctly and my memory is very fuzzy, they just soundchecked love the one your with for the 1st time before the show and had never practiced it together besides that couple minutes and knocked it out of the park. I knew barraco was about to have a rip roaring organ solo coming up and it delivered. If you play organ that’s a solid song for a solo.

You didn’t have the D line. That’s where it all starts. Get to the QB. I didn’t know you had 9 actually drafted. But what did you have behind them. Georgia has more 1st rounders who weren’t eligible to be drafted. You had a magical season. But you weren’t national champion material. Football is one of those sports where the small guy won’t win it all. You can have great seasons but 2 straight vs the best wont happen.

TCU had the 60th rank recruiting class in 2022. They only got 3 4 star and 9 3-star players. Teams like Rutgers smoked them in recruiting. Kentucky had 11 4-star recruits. North Carolina had 2 5 star and 8 4-star recruits. Then you get to the monsters like A&M with the best class in history with 8 5-star and 20 4-star. They ate all freshmen but will be a lot of NFL guys. TCU may have a good system but coming from behind every game will come to an end the games need to be played but comparing Cincinnati last year to any SEC team can’t be done. They don’t play 7 FPI top 20 teams. It’s like triple A. No one has beat an SEC team in the playoffs besides OSU and Clemson and it’s because OSU is a top 5 recruiter like Clemson. You saw the carnage when Michigan state made the playoffs a few years ago when they were the 20th ranked FPI team. You can be coached great but you need talent to beat the big boys.
-
you mean talent bias. You see it every year. Some scrub makes it in by playing no one and they get crushed. Only OSU and Clemson have enough talent to stick with Bama and GA on any consistent basis. TCU has had a solid season but like Cincinnati they aren’t really a top 4 team. Hasn’t TCU been down by 2 scores in 4+ games and come back?

I’d love a warfield > Tahoe and stay an extra day gambling. That sounds fun.

My playoff guesses would be Georgia tennessee winner Bama ohio state/Michigan winner Clemson (weak ass schedule. Almost lost to Syracuse who lacks nfl talent) so if tennessee stays undefeated and beats Georgia and loses in SEC champ they are in. Same with Georgia. Bama has to win out and sec champ to get in. Michigan or Ohio state gets in if they win out. The big ten lacks any legit talent outside of Michigan and osu. You can’t recruit high end talent that far north anymore. If I was a 5* guy, I’m not going to a dying program in Michigan state where it’s miserable and cold. USC has lots of potential b/c it’s easy to recruit to LA. That’s where I’d go if I was a star athlete. Best looking girls with perfect weather. You had me at 25% of girls at USC had a boob job. That’s a legit stat. Like 1 in 10 incoming freshmen chicks get one the summer before. But it’s LA so makes sense.

Disjointed tour schedules likely led to this as well as covid forcing us to find other avenues of escape during the dead music period. After the multiple baseball strikes it took years for the fans to come back. They had to find something else to do and realized they could survive sans baseball. During covid, we didn’t turn away from music. We turned to Hyryder every weekend as they played almost every Friday/Saturday outdoors at the mousetrap for a while. We had mask up outside with the mask police on our ass if we took too long of a sip of beer but that was what it took to see shows. Unfortunately DSO was too big to make 200 people shows work and guys like Hyryder feasted. Meili thinks we see nothing anymore b/c 13 shows this calendar year seems like boredom compared to our past life. I’m cool with the new baby reality. She’s less cool. She got a taste and wasn’t ready to give up the fantasy world we lived in. To be fair even in the 50 show year, the dead period after jazz fest and jubilee before summer tour created similar thoughts for her even after 30 shows in 5 months. Past shows didn’t fulfill during down times and more and more shows were needed. It’s a real addiction and covid and baby helped me break it. We get to do Milwaukee and St. Louis upcoming so that should be fun. Chicago unfortunately isn’t in the cards even for the special show. The Vic will be so oversold you may never even see a familiar face once the show starts. The nice thing is you can smoke in the bathrooms at the Vic. It’s an unofficial policy so don’t quote me on it but on the way to the basement bathrooms the smoke starts rolling up the stairwell.

You can’t ever count Bama out. Tennessee played as good as they could and snuck one out. Tennessee’s QB has to be the heisman leader so far. He was great. Tennessee will wear you out. They play soooo fast. I was at a show Saturday so I ignored all news and texts to watch it Sunday and you can’t use fast forward or you miss a play. Heck Bama plays fast too. Bama doesn’t have the O line they are used to or the DT’s they normally have. This is a year that Bama can get beat.

Saw Billy strings tour today. 3 day weekends. Rinse repeal. DSO’s fall tour is 2 or 3 show weekend runs. Is this the new model? Don’t play Tuesdays? Maximize time at home as well as profit. No more actual tours where we can pop in the car and follow bands?? Panic has been doing that model for a while as well as Phish. I guess now DSO and Billy strings are on the bus. Productivity during the week has gone up 4.5% since the music died. The powers that be got their wish. Stay home weekdays and feel free to blow it out on weekends. It was a brilliantly executed plan to change our habits. I heard Deadco was paid handsomely to hang it up as they were the last holdouts doing Tuesday shows in the summer. The kids will be like “You mean there were concerts on weekdays?” “When I was young-er there were son.” “How could you keep up with the productivity threshold of 4.37 quintix, dad.” Im already prepping myself for that convo.

Scouring deadbase I found an interesting trivia question. What song opened a show in 76, 83 and 93 as its only 3 openers ever and closed 1 show ever in 77?? Its always fun popping out the deadbase to see how a song placement starts then ends and how the band experimented with it in both sets until it found a possible resting spot for it in one set or another or not.

We may do the 3 Deadco Boulder shows. I don’t buy tix 9 months out. There should be a ton on CoT with everyone being forced to buy this early.
-
that one hurt. Penalty on the go ahead TD with 40 secs left then a fumble on the next play at the 13yd line and a FG would have tied it. We missed 2 XP’s and a short fg as well. Sad loss…

the guys who try to make it as coaches or scouts at 22 get some menial grad assistant job in college and work 18 hours a day studying football. I never had the dedication to care about a 40 hour a week job much less dedicate my existence to something. McVey sleeps like 3 hours a day and is in his office by 3-4am daily. His hot wife sees him an hour a day during the season. (Google her). on that note, Kentucky goes to ole miss today. Let’s see if our 1st round QB and defense can perform.

He def was going to be huge regardless but as I looked back through this thread I see lots of dead songs posted. I think many wouldn’t have checked out just a bluegrass song but a dead one will get a click. There’s a much bigger crossover at Billy with deadheads than the other big bluegrass bands. Of course now it doesn’t matter what Billy plays but I know meili went to see him in Nashville hoping Bobby was gonna play and she got it.
-
Omg I’m in an argument in a text thread with friends. I said Billy got big fast b/c their dead tunes went viral and deadheads flocked to him. They are trying to say he’d have gotten just as big without ever playing a dead song. No way. Playing dead is how he exploded then he played with Billy and Bobby. I went to see him at a tiny venue in 2018 b/c of the dead and many others there were the same way.
