Show was too late to watch last night so jammed with coffee this morning on the replay. Sounded great at home. You could hear all instruments perfectly. That’s imperative for home listening. Too many of the other bands had the rhythm get lost in the mix but not with dso. watched a lot of dead from this fest and there are lots of fun bands, but DSO’s level of interplay between all the members is at such a high level. There are no weak links and you can tell they are a full time band. The biggest difference to me is with the percussion section. Dino and Koritz are so fantastic and tight with perfect clean sound and you have the best dead keyboardist in the land with Barraco filling out the group. Luckily skip was on last night b/c from the home stream he was turned way up in the mix. He was awesome. Creative playing. If you were curious about playing dead bass, you could hear every note he picked.

1st you had JK in Latin Dead. Now barraco and skip in Mars hotel. This fest is half dso players. It’s jubilee with perfectly sunny weather and all dead bands. On that note, I want MORE DEAD at jubilee. How about a local Dead act mid day. Invite Hyryder. They would sell 300 tickets by themselves. I’d like jubilee to be more like this. Who needs variety of music styles. I just want variety of Dead.
-
So JK is playing with the Latin Dead. Didn’t know he identified as LatinX. Good to have a bit of diversity in the scene. It’s veryyy pale. It’s so pale I almost feel racist for going up to the one black chick I see at a bunch of shows and giving a hug and saying hi. I wouldn’t do that to a random white girl. Is that racist or just being hyper aware how white the scene is and wanting to welcome others. Playing basketball in high school I was the only white person at a few parties but we were a sports team so. Ramble ramble. 420 started way early along with whiskey 30.

The lead guitarist of the Garcia birthday band plays with the speed of like Joe satriani but playing dead. Holy shit the let it grow is nuts. Expecting maybe 2-3 notes in a noodle he throws like 6 all perfectly played. It’s not as bluesy playing that speed but it’s was pretty fucking badass. edit: I’m officially in love with their lead guitarist. Holy crap he’s fucking amazing. That mighty high was also sick

I didn’t make it to start time lol. Was in bed at 9pm. I need sleep to be on my feet starting at 7a with wild man. He no longer lets me sit down. I must stay active with him or he climbs me like a tree. Knees to the nose is my punishment for sitting.

https://m.facebook.com/SkullandRoses4 you can go and watch last night with barraco Eaton skip Melvin wolf lane and jk. Good show so far. Little man is wresting me b/c I want music with my coffee. He wants trains so he’s attacking me climbing on me. FYI you don’t need a FB to watch the stream.

So McNally thought the fare thee well shows would put a stake in the music?? That’s bonkers. How would someone so in tune with this scene believe this would be the end??? It’s not like those shows created all these dead tributes. There wasn’t some explosion in tributes b/c of fare thee well. Such a weird take. Of course there are the peeps who one do Deadco who weren’t seeing other bands before but it’s not like those people are now filling dso shows. I’d guess dso sold as many if not more tickets right before fare thee well as they did pre covid. He did know there were 500+ tributes out there already and there was a Sirius station that’s all dead. Were we going to just start listening to EDM or hip hop as that’s the new music out there. Were we going to stop seeing live music b/c they announced these “final” shows. Just strange how he didn’t have his finger on the pulse of fans at all.

it’s about time and babysitters. We aren’t in a fantasy world anymore and can’t leave whenever we want. We need notice. It’s not money, it’s days off work for her. It’s also not wanting to hop in a car driving 4 hours a day town yo town. Those days are over. 3 days in Colorado near summer solstice sounds great to me. We don’t do Albany New Years b/c connecting flights suck and we don’t do the extra days before shows anymore. Denver is great if we have the same bed for multiple nights but I’m mostly done with car tours or non direct flights. We do what we can do. Life changes. Priorities change. See you at jubilee :))
-
before the band has said they don’t announce anything close to Columbus unless jubikee sells out b/c there are weird people who will be like no reason to do jubilee with a cincy show a month later. If I were guessing I’d guess cincy, St. Louis and Chicago are somewhere end of June. But weve wanted to go to RR again in the summer and 3 panic shows who we enjoy as a change of pace was too good to pass up. I love 3 shows in 1 spot. You get great rest and can enjoy the local sites. When dso did the 2 Boulder then RR, it was so fun being in the same Airbnb 3 nights.
-
By announcing so late we were forced to make other plans. We are trying for Asheville but panic RR is the weekend after then heading to the beach. I bet dso will be in my backyard that red rocks weekend, but have to get plans in the books for her to get off work. I’m guessing dso won’t announce shows too close to Columbus to make sure they sell jubilee out.
-
Wow that seems nuts if they didn’t have some GA camping for peeps who flew in and didn’t want to get a car. I’d think someone in line would let you hop in or hop in the back of a truck.

Accuweather just released the Jubilee forecast. Friday 83/56 (hot day 65% rain) sat 81/49 cooler night 50% rain Sun 73/49 perfect finishing weather. the good news with this finalized forecast is it will be 80 all week before so there should be no mud

We try to hit Smalls when in NYC b/c you can stay all night vs many where you buy tix for an hour or so and then get shuffled out. Covid really killed jazz clubs. The green mill in Chicago was always our go to post dso/deadco/JRAD but now the music stops at midnight vs 4am pre covid.
-
Let Charlie Morgan of Hyryder do Phil’s vocals for him lol. Some west coasters are gonna get turned on to the silkiest Jerry and Bobby voice in the land.
-
we went to disc jockey and got in line before it opened. Probably made more sense selling tickets in a music store than suitcase store. The problem was tickets would sometimes go on sale before it opened.
-
I still love trying to catch a lot of shows but it’s no longer priority 1 like it was from 2014-2020. They are still a priority for mental and physical health but lower down.

we are pretty much on destination weekends for the next 5 years and as the years progress my appetite for driving 4 straight days is almost nil. I did love doing many whole tours in the day though. Those memories are cherished. With her 15 vacation days a year and 5 of those are beach days, we have about 6-7 weekends/fests we can do a year plus the random Saturday Nashville, St. Louis, cincy or Indy up and backs. Pretty much shooting for 15-20 annual shows and hopefully like 10 of those being dso. I was on pace to hit 200 dso shows in 2020 but now it will probably be next year when I hit that milestone and 10 years for the next 100 vs 100 in 26 months at 1 stretch catching around 40%. What’s funny is id only seen 28 dso shows before meili saw her 1st and she’s now at around 140. That’s pretty nuts to think about and she’s done 3 completely solo deadco shows I didn’t want to do which she wouldn’t have done early in the relationship without the confidence of this being her music now and her scene and she’d go spend the whole day on lot which I have zero interest in doing now but I did do when I was young. What’s funny is she knew I wouldn’t be interested in some of the up and backs and had already packed and then was like I’m going to Deadco St. Louis. You can come if you want or the I left work early and am already headed to cincy. Can you find me a ticket on CashorTrade. See you and Jonathan tomorrow. But I created the need for shows and solo shows are pretty fun. Non deadheads don’t really understand going to a show solo, but you’re never really alone at a dance party.
-
Lol you can get a commemorative ticket for Deadco for $10 extra. That’s freaking silly. Is anyone familiar with the Ticketmaster scam back in the day. They mailed your tickets and you could go to box office day of show and say they never arrived and get another set of tix. We used it honorably when our car was robbed on tour by non tour peeps so there wouldn’t be anyone in our spot.
-
Unfortunately we couldn’t wait on the announce and are doing panic red rocks 6/23-25. The road gets tiring and 3 Colorado shows at 1 spot is the ticket and panic always delivers the goods. I just hope dso isn’t doing a bunch of Midwest shows then 😭

It was at a ski resort so they had to figure it would be at least a bit cold. Wind chill showed in single digits. They needed those heaters on the sidelines of football games that look like torpedoes. Do you feel your fingers against the strings or just assume your fingers are where they need to be. This is when that heated guitar you bought on a whim comes in handy. The drummers were likely doing their Carter Beauford glove tribute. Did the guitarists and barraco use fingerless gloves? If Lisa tried to do pig harmonica, the spit would freeze. That jubilee 2 was cold as balls and last night was like 15 degrees colder. I’d be in my sleeping bag or car more likely with the heat

Saw Hyryder at the bluebird in Bloomington, IN last night. Really cute music club that is only open during shows so seeing this wasn’t some bar show but an actual venue, we made the short drive. Hyryder never disappoints. The only issue is they aren’t doing full 4 hour start to finish anymore. They are doing like 3:45. My greed is off the charts. DSO used to start almost every show at the second of showtime. Even saw them start one 2 minutes early. Id tell people the show will start in 10 minutes b/c it was 7:50. They were like no band does that. I’m like trust me. Of course deadheads are the greediest fans ever. We want 5 hours not just 4 and god forbid dso does a 8:15 to 11:50 show. Hey guys there’s time for 1 more!!! But as I age, 3:30 start to finish is sufficient…….sometimes.

Was curious if anyone here was at the making of the touch of grey video after the 1987 Laguna seca show. I found the making of the video on internet archives. Dead Ringers: The making of touch of grey https://archive.org/details/grateful-dead-making-of-1987-vhs

2 pairs just sold on CashorTrade. Another is up for sale. Make sure to set a notification so you get a text when posted

i see your ISO on CashorTrade. Unfortunately not being a gold member gives gold members a 10 minute head start over you. If you see lots of shows, the $25 annual fee to be a gold member pays off in spades. You’re more likely to respond quicker and many will always sell to the gold member if there are several offers. Every Deadco and panic ticket I’ve ever gotten was well under face value. Deadco lawns are $20 all day on show day. Billy strings recent Bridgestone tickets were selling for $20-30 for 80 face.

https://cornell23.com deadco playing 5/8/23 Barton music hall. You can get pits for only $750 and Seats for $1500 face. Can you imagine slow and co recreating cornel 77. Good lord. note it doesn’t say but the tickets are tied to your name so don’t get in the lottery where they automatically charge your credit card if you won’t go. I had to dig and dig but found where your id must match your tickets and you have to enter with your entire party. No splitting or scalping. Can’t believe there’s no mention of that until you click an obscure ticket policy link at the bottom. Some scalpers will get a rude awakening. I figured it would be like that or would be a scalpers dream and after no mention in the FAQ and none on the main page I found the info. oh and for only $750 more you can upgrade to VIP pit where you get a cash bar reception the night before plus a poster. Band won’t be in attendance. Seems about right. Oh don’t forget you get to enter the venue 30 minutes early b/c that’s so important. And you have a concierge because I can’t go to a show sans on site concierge. Like wtf. Is the concierge going to call a restaurant to get me reservations or circle sites on a map for me or print out Mapquest directions. Lol don’t think I’ve typed or used the word Mapquest in a decade.
