Must be nice to be able to fly 4 peeps for a 1 off show across country to Watkins glen. Unfortunately I won’t drop 5k on a weekend. As I said she has 3 weeks off a year. She was denied 6/16 off with us taking off 6/23-26 then 7/1-7/9. We do 1 day off for 2 shows. Indy is 2 days off for 1 show. If we’d known dso was playing Asheville earlier we wouldn’t have booked panic redrocks 3 shows. Unfortunately we aren’t in your situation where we fly across country every weekend to see shows. Our child isn’t ready for shows. He’d torture us. 2 hours in a car and he tortures us so we won’t torture him for our pleasure. I love dso but I won’t spend 3k on last second RT flight to Jackson hole. Plus we already booked flights ti the beach. I get that you just do dso and now do every weekend but my whole family is at the beach so that’s where we are going. My single life revolved around dso but priorities are way way way different now. I was just hoping for a couple shows close that we could maybe not have to use days off on. Unfortunately not everyone with kids can see 40 shows a year. You home schooling?

Well maybe fall will set up better lol.

Deadco tonight at cornel. 46 anniversary of 5/8/77. There’s a $15 livestream that may be better than the original show!! Check their FB b/c I’m sure lots may go there with the comments. Unfortunately I won’t be getting the stream. Hard pass.

It’s outdoor with a flat dance area. That’s all you need!! I’d love to do this weekend but she got freaking denied on her PTO request. Denied… Its gonna require an eventual talk with the boss saying this is how we deal with life stressors. Shows. If we get denied then it may not be the right job. On that note that would have been the 1st of 4 straight weekends out of town so we didn’t throw down the gauntlet

We will definitely come see you guys one day while in Colorado. We got a really close Airbnb so we can do as much as we can while we have freedom. I’d guess that most shows(the Wyoming excluded), Dso gets paid on a percent of ticket sales. The money is in the northeast for sure and it’s a different post covid environment. That’s also why we can’t rely on DSO tours. They do what they have to do and we will also. It’s just too expensive and too much hassle for us to do New York shows. We are doing panic b/c Nashville to Denver is cheap and it’s a direct flight. We waited as long as we could to plan summer days off. She’s at a hospital now and things are different. In summer the parentals also travel so the 2 babysitting options are limited June and July. We had a blast at panic New Years in Nashville. Free place to stay and 2 hours away so that was an easy decision so we wanted to take that ride again. And we are at the beach 7/1-7/9. My whole family is there. Personally I’d love to do the whole 3 weeks at the beach but she’s gotta work.

we used to base all our plans around DSo, but they aren’t playing our area like they used to and we aren’t getting the notice we used to get. Dso has played like 5 shows within 7 hours of us in the last year. We caught pretty much all of those, but the days of 15-20 shows within 7 hours are over it seems. They haven’t played Indy since 2019. There have been 3 cincy shows and 1 St. Louis show in 4 years. Am I supposed to just sit and wait and hope I get a show MC?? If they don’t come then I do nothing? Having a baby means we have to plan ahead for babysitters. If I see something non dso that’s fun, I book it. It’s May and a July run was just announced. Do you see how many peeps on here want to go to Wyoming and they can’t b/c it was too last second and they have other plans already. This is a real issue that the band needs to address as it’s affecting their pocketbooks. I’d guess with 6-7 months notice; at least 30 peeps just on the board would be going. That money loss adds up and DSO is a business and whoever is doing their booking needs to step their game up b/c it’s costing them money!
-
Maybe the biggest issue is Deadco is playing the gorge this weekend. Many out west planned that trip a long while ago. I hope dso sells a bunch of tix but on FB you see a lot wishing they could do this but already have a big group heading to the gorge.

Panic was my 1st live band thar I traveled to see in the early 90’s. Got to see them with 40 other people at Phoenix hill in Louisville and the Cincinnati zoo. They paid their dues for a decade before making their nut. Luckily they were from the south and got to catch them several times in Lexington too. I didn’t catch them again until 2010 and now I’m in for at least 3 shows a year including 3 redrocks shows end of June!!!!!! DSO didn’t release any summer shows in time and we had to pull the trigger on something and redrocks is a hoot as it is. Giddy up!!

phish played dead when they started out as a band really early. They were inspired by the dead like Panic. Jerry had a big influence on these jam bands. Billy strings plays pretty much 0 dead now, but the GD got him famous. He played 3 dead songs a night when he started. He would have gotten big anyway, but without him being talked about on every dead forum about his take on dead songs, no way he got big that fast. People on here were posting links to his dead covers. He played with Bobby at the Ryman. The dead built his brand quickly. i just figured you’d be interested in a big band who started out as deadheads and were inspired by the dead and this is their sound. i really loved early Panic b/c their initial sound was so similar to the dead on their self titled album and space wrangler. A lot of their fans were upset by the time bombs and butterflies came out as it was their own sound and not really dead-like anymore.

wow somehow I never saw this comment. This is sort of crazy never hearing 1 tune?? during the lockdown, Koritz was doing his podcast and Dino was on there. We threw up a question like would you rather be the drummer of phish or panic. I figured Dino was gonna say panic as he’s seen them a bunch even though on a 1 drummer in Chicago years ago with Koritz drumming; he went to see phish before hightailing it back in time to do the filler, but Koritz chose Phish. But having never heard a song ever is sorta strange. I’d at least want to know what all the hype is about. Greg, I’d suggest popping on the double CD Junta. It’s studio but really good. The lyrics are very whimsical, but musically they are solid. Some parts of some songs are like you stepped into a traditional jazz club. There are multiple style changes in every song. You Enjoy Myself is likely their most famous songs. The drumming on Golgi Apparatus is elite.
-
umm so we have to see GD, but we really want to see phish?
-
If I recall correctly, didn’t you do Phish Tour for a while MC????? I thought you’d seem like 30+ phish shows and actually followed them for a period.
-
Saw them in 96 in Louisville trying to find a band to replace the dead. They didn’t and a really weak setlist didn’t help. Saw them a few years ago and it was a great time. The crowd is nowhere near as cool as a dead or panic crowd. You’d think it would be similar but it’s really not. Panic fans wear more dead attire than panic attire but at phish it was like no one was a deadhead or at least we were the only ones repping dead tees(I usually go DSO shirts at any deadco or panic to represent). I think that’s why we gravitate to panic more. Their fans are like us and we are almost felt out of place at phish. on that note, I really like Junta. That’s a show off album. I still play it at least several times a year. Their drummer was so creative on that album.

that was the craziest ticket I’d ever bought. A ticket company making 3x what the actual artist pulled from a show. Insane. they used to have the fan club tickets for some shows. I think all these venues made agreements with Ticketmaster for a big check up front to only allow them to sell tickets. I know they paid soldier fiend 10 mil to be the exclusive ticket provider.

we had to pick a beach week months ago with her working at a hospital now and everyone going on vacations in the summer. A big excursion like this needs lots of advance notice for flights and planning. I remember Barraco at our camp at Jubilee telling us they were playing redrocks 14 months in advance to make sure we all made it and pretty much everyone we knew did make it with that 14 month heads up. I’d have to think that with a year notice on this that it would be like jubilee and we’d have 100 friends there. We’d have for sure done this with enough notice vs 3k cost on a last minute RT flight for 2 and even at 3 months, flying 4th of July week is last minute. We wanted to make this happen but alas it wasn’t in the cards. Unfortunately she can’t get off Asheville weekend b/c other social workers already took that Friday off and she’s the only one on her floor. We need more DSO but what we really need is notice so she puts in for her PTO before others.
-
A friend gave us the heads up on this a while back and even early April trying to get a flight to Jackson hole that 4th of July week is insane. Pre baby we’d have flown to Denver the weekend before and get a car and go to Yosemite for the week and finish with shows. Plus we are at the beach this week and weirdly there aren’t direct flights from the Carolina beach to Jackson hole. They are prob used to mostly private planes with Kanye West and the Biebs. If Tea decides to book us a charger leaving from Raleigh, we can make this work.

Dicks picks volume 1 was on repeat in my car for 1 year. I’d never heard HCS before as this was the 1st live version on cd as I had no taper buddies. I was in love with 73 sound. It’s funny that early on they only did 1 CD on dicks picks. No one would ever want to pay for a 3 CD whole show. Now they release 90 CD box sets. The poor kids from the day now have all this disposable income to relive the past. But if they did release like that Europe 72 full tour back then, no way they sell out 15k of those $1k or whatever they cost box sets. It would also have likely pissed off the fans that would undoubtedly scream money grab and who had a grand to drop on CDs in the 90’s or at least who would actually spend that on music. I thought my roommate was nuts for spending $30 for this Pearl Jam European bootlegs.

That dude should have done better. 11 shows he took her to in 12 years. I’ve taken meili to 140 dso in 8 plus countless other dead bands and panic plus the dso and Deadco she did solo. i had zero interest in the 2 day jubilation in the cold and wet so I babysat at home while she rocked your front row pod MC lol. Those were the 2 dso she soloed but she also soloed Deadco 3x and Billy strings. The monster was created. If I bit it, the music wouldn’t die with me. She’d be planning shows with Sammie’s crew as she loves their vibe.

I don’t know much about the tech part of it besides it’s their new flagship large format PA and that each speaker in the array is self powered so no need for 20 mono blocks to push the sound. I just want 1 McIntosh mono block but the little man is more likely to get one before me. Or you can have 4 like John A and do a home addition just to put your power and server bank. It is sorta crazy to see his music closet with all the Beta tapes of music as well as the thousands of casettes. Crazy to think that people took beta tapes and 30 pound VCR things into shows in the day as that was the 1st digital way to record. Did you have to bring a car battery for the power?
-
yeah the Panther line array they use is as good as it gets. Each speaker in the array is pretty much a new car and there are 10 in each array. https://meyersound.com/product/panther/

It’s Cotter’s birthday on the Friday of Jubilee so make sure to say hi and thank you for the sound he gives us.
-
Vip RV sold out. They say no external generators so don’t know what to tell you there. You get plenty of space. Vip or GA it’s all good. Get there early is best advice.
-
Just so you can hear the sound difference with Cotter running DSO’s board and how all 6 instruments are so crystal clear, Here is DSO https://www.facebook.com/SkullandRoses4/videos/1229897600968662/?app=fbl Here is Phil and friends the next night. https://www.facebook.com/SkullandRoses4/videos/3522641931358786/?app=fbl Cotter should be paid to run the whole festivals sound. Toss him 10k and say get to work!!!!

DSO just puts it all together so well. They are so balanced. No need to compensate anywhere. One massive boost is cotter on sound. Last night listening to Phil and friends, the levels were wrong. We couldn’t even heay the piano and the high hats were almost muffled. Gotta have the clean high hat sound like dso has to make the sound rich. I felt bad for Chris in no simple highway. His vocal mic was completely off during him singing revolution to open their show. There were a lot of sound problems that you don’t get at jubilee.

So our new friend we made at Milwaukee DSO and also Bill K’s college roommate, Chris, is playing organ currently in No Simple Highway. Dino on drums too.
