My sister and brother in law (the dentist) just saw the St Paul MN Eagles/Steely Dan show on the 18th and said it will be their last time as the band was noticeably old. This in comparison to when they saw them two years ago in Pittsburgh. Travelling to see the Eagles has been their DSO; however, this last show was a let down. Aerosmith is playing Columbus and when I told coworkers lower arena was $300+, the response from them was why so low? It's a shame that todays concert goers think that's normal. And when they get in the arena they're goin to have drunkin' screamers around them who want to get the most out of their $300 seats. TB use the scheme Rude did with Stones floor seats by slipping the wrist band worker $$ to band you up front instead of your very back. ๐

Once again DSO stakes the claim not to leave at the encore like heads used to do at shows. They nailed that home with Morning Dew on a work night . What a nice cap of shows from Milwaukee to Columbus. Thanks to the band, crew and all the nice people in attendance

I know nobody wants to hear anything more about Billy Strings, but check this out: I got an email yesterday about "your upcoming visit" there will be door dash food and beverages delivery starting at 11am in the lot and continuing through the show (you get notified about when to go to concession, not delivery to your seat) Billy merchandise will start at noon in the lot, only one poster per ticket holder, and then there is the parking info. This past summer when we saw him in St Louis, I found a $9.00 parking lot less than a quarter of a mile away (7 min walk) whereas the main event lot (at $25.00) had cars lined up out on the highway waiting forever. My biggest concern now is to find the perfect parking. There are meters and various lots. Co-workers are asking if I'm excited about the show tomorrow night and my reply is "after I get parked" . I've learned not to get too excited until the lights go down. Even then, I'd have to wait until the standard openers were through to see if a To Lay Me Down was going to show up or some once a tour song. Also, no bags, including purses, will be allowed into Van Dal Arena for the show.

The one that stands out and I still remember how spectacular it was , esp with the sunsetting over the river for the scarlet fire is that summer time show at Annie's which is now RL in Cincy. There was a Money, Money and a St Stephen after the SF. There was also a State Bridge show that opened with Here Comes Sunshine that is my top shelf and then that Terrapin Nation show at the ledges in 07 or 08. As far recreations, the Newport in Columbus, an 84 show with a China Rider opening the second set and Zappa was played before the show and at setbreak. I remember telling my nephew that I had seen Zappa in November of 1984 at the Newport. He came away from that show saying one of the best part of the experience was how everyone was so in tune with what was playing and having fun trying to guess. Had never experienced an audience that was talking amongst everyone about every detail. -

Credit to the band for putting together an amazing four nights, but to have Shakedown, Stranger , Scarlet Fire and a Morning Dew in one is incomprehensibly stacked. Didn't get to go but love reading the ingenuity and knowing good people were treated for getting there.

Birmingham Atlanta Chattanooga so as not to Confuse any spur of the moment travellers. This place in Gulf Shores I go to every year to get my head straight the prime week is Oct 15-20. Really bummed I ain't doing Newport and Pittsburgh... Halloween will be my next show up in Grand Rapids, then Darrell Scott celebrating Guy Clark's birthday at City Winery in Nashville. I'm going to try to get to St Louis (Fri another day off)๐ค Unfortunately can't take another work day off for the Sunday Columbus๐ค take considering the upcoming week on the beach, Halloween is a Tues which means two more and the Darrell Scott celebrating Guy's birthday is a Mon, there's two more. Probably know more people in St Louis than Columbus (if the all the fine people from Paducah go?) There was a bunch that I met at my first Hyryder show that were also at last year's St Louis.

For some reason sugarmegs.org is getting dosed hard with GD. Recent additions is a daily read for me and they've got 40-50? soundboards and crazy crisp audience tapes just added in the past week. Currently listening to Merriweather July 1, 1985, Mr. Miller is attributed and weird other master sources like Betty and Dick lavital (sp). Check out this onslaught of material. Wonder what's up? http://ia600501.us.archive.org/25/items/gd1985-07-01MerriweatherPostPavilionColumbiaMD/gd1985-07-01MerriweatherPostPavilionColumbiaMD.mp3?cnt=0

Parrot Head Central! He certainly added lots of color and fun to living the good life throughout exceptional songwriting. A son of a son of a sailor gave me a hard time at a show because I was wearing a duck hat I'd gotten as an Arby's giveaway on our way to the Omni / Greensboro run 1990. I figured a bird hat was a bird hat and that was the only one I had. They were as serious about the proper inequities as heads are about GD. Kudos for all the great tailgating Jimmy Buffett fostered. Sorry to hear of this. RIP JB. Wonder if he'll get a nod at tonight's Emmylou show?

Concert tix prices took the first leap, and when I decided not to buy them, in 1980 when Fleetwood Mac was asking $15.00 because of their Rumors album tour (that was double the normal $7.50 Led Zeppelin cost) then the Stones took it to an even more ridiculous level asking $25.00, but the true evil came with the Eagles, When Hell Freezes Over shows, asking the unimaginable, criminal $125.00. ๐ Telluride two day tickets were $40.00. 2pm showtimes for "special guests". I believe it was about 420 when the dead took the stage -
Saturday September 2 Emmylou Harris at the new barn theater in Mt Vernon KY. Bob Dylan is playing James Brady in Cincy and box office tickets were something like $260-$480, geez, that ain't gonna happened I'll be in Franklin TN coming back from a soak in Gulf Shores. Still would never drop that on an evening of music. That's almost enough to buy another instrument!

The January 1987 Stone Jerry Garcia Band shows were $10.00. Saturday and Sunday nights right before the Chinese New Year's series. Only me and one other friend from our "Big Events" crew decided to come out a few days early for these ridiculously intimate Jerry shows. Jerry entered the venue through the front door while we were all waiting in line to get in. A big white car pulled up and Jerry hoped out, waving to everyone, as he went in the front door ahead of us. The band, with Gloria and Jackie, took up as much room in the Stone as the audience๐. Two sets, $10.00 each night. . I believe the Lawlor Center in Reno in February 87 was $13.00 and gas was under a $1.00/gal (just needed to transport across the desert and back). Wiltern Friday the 13th and Saturday 3/14/87 were $15.00, prices were creeping up! -
Since we're on the subject here , there and everywhere: https://archive.org/details/gd1987-08-18.145599.nak300.in-house.fm.composite.hessberg.miller.clugston.flac1648 Weird, I put in August 20, 1987 hoping for Park West and it brings up the pesky Compton Terrace, even when I went back and did a second search. I know Park West was taped by our people with AKG460 dbx D5, guess I'll have to dig up my tape and send it to someone that does digital transfers. 8/20/87 opened with Big Boss Man. 2nd set,: ChinaRyder, truckin>smokestack and Stella showed up (that's all I can remember)

Yep,deadbase has Chandler. I just remember it being a big field with the reserved seating in front and some kinda barrier keeping us GA folks behind the front section. Not much of any structures built up. I was chasing 87 like it was 85, thinking something big was waiting for this show following Telluride. Terrapin was big and then after the space Fantasy and I was ready to head up to Park West for the rail. I did summer school in Tempe at ASU that's why I always thought of this show as T. Thanks for bringing your project online and making it available for all. Incredible work -
