  1. Definitely Phil heavy all night. They made a note at the beginning that the show was dedicated to him. Jerry’s sunglasses, one of weir’s guitars, and a genuine Phil sweatband were in the flesh. thought the band was hot all night. Half step, sunshine, GSET, china rider were big highlights in the first set along with all of the Phil tunes. Second set was pretty relentless. Heard a jaws theme tease and a love supreme tease somewhere in there. A+. Love my electives.

  5. Beautiful recreation. Loved the opening triumvirate. DDB is an underplayed song imo; good to catch that. Fiery finish to the first set with LIG>Deal. Nights are always good when you make it to terrapin station. Classic 77 stuff.
  6. I'm very sorry to hear this Rick. Hoping you find peace and comfort in your memories, with your loved ones and in the music that has guided you through life.

This was a very important show for me. I had just lost my grandfather the day before. Hearing the music really lifted my spirits and some songs stirred memories for myself. Box of Rain opener was perfectly fitting. Man smart, woman smarter, ramble on rose, and masterpiece were all played with aplomb. I remember thinking Skip in particularly was on fire. Bit of a hometown show for him. First set really broke open from loser on. Cumberland blues, which is a top 5 song (in case you didn’t know that), had that perfectly dizzying playing. Broken Arrow, another song of the bucket list and another song for Skip. Deal provided a fiery close to the set. Second set was pretty choice imo. Not a huge UJB fan but it made sense for the venue. Mission was fantastic and emotional. Corrina was a nice slinky dance. Loved Jeff’s tone. Unbroken chain (three skip songs!) was really tight. I remember thinking the drums portion sounded like something out of terminator. Low spark has been such a welcome addition to the repertoire. Love it. Jeff had some issues before throwing stones and took a while to get his guitar just right. Couldn’t tell if it was a string or what. Seemed to last forever. And then Dew to finish it all of was about all I could ask for. Very strong finish. Had a feeling they’d have a hard curfew and not do an encore. Bit of a bummer. Loved being on the sand but the venue preparedness was woeful. Six portapotties and they ran out of beer? Come on now. All that aside, it was really wonderful to see so many faces here (you know who you are). Everyone was super kind and supportive. A good night for my soul.
  8. Fun elective to start the tour. Was feeling 83ish save for a couple early hints. Obvious elective by the time Reuben and cherish and world to give came around. thought the band had some solid chemistry, each member bringing something to fill the space between one another. Hot promised land start with an extended guitar solo. Strong finish with the row Jimmy, candyman and a really greasy stranger. second set hit the spot pretty well. Particularly liked the ship of fools, imagine space, and world to give. felt great getting back out there and seeing this band. Here’s to many more shows down the road.
  9. Tomorrow will be my first DSO show since NYE 2019/2020. I had no interest in the drive-in shows and couldn't be happier to be getting normal shows. Show #183 coming up.
  10. Agree with a lot that has been said here e.g. 5/6/81 Nassau, 10/14/83 Hartford, 6/14/85 Greek, 11/1/85 Richmond, 5/6/89 Frost, 10/9/89 Hampton, 10/16/89 NJ, 3/29/90 Nassau Surprised no one has mentioned 9/18/87 MSG, 7/13/84 Greek, 7/2 and 7/3/88 Oxford, 7/4/89 Buffalo, 7/7/89 Philly, 7/17/89 Alpine, 9/29/89 Shoreline. Monstrous shows. 6/28/85 Hershey, 6/30/85 Merriweather, 9/15/85 Chula Vista are all outstanding and shining examples of why 85 is the most underrated year. 8/12/87 Red Rocks is a good'un. 4/15/88 Rosemont, 4/30/88 Frost, 6/28/88 Saratoga 4/28/89 Irvine 3/24/90 Knickerbocker, 6/16/90 Shoreline 1989 was a great year for the Dead - crisp sound, bigger jams, and Jerry was lucid and creative. There are great shows throughout the 80s, but 87-89 were the best years with a peak in 89...
  11. Probably just NJ in June for me. Will be keeping an eye out for other dates though.
  12. Went last night. Little slow out the gate but the show from help on the way to the end was absolutely smokin. Very cool to see them reprise so what, low spark and wharf rat during dark star. musically, it doesn’t hit those searing highs of blissful euphoria for me but they have great chemistry and communication. Very playful and impressive playing. Molo and Herring are the real deal. Barraco was outstanding handling a lot of the vocals as well.
  13. Got my ticket for Wednesday. Curious if anyone is going... Finally got around to seeing JRAD this past weekend, which was fun. It scratched the itch and had moments but it all but confirmed my preferred dead experience.
  14. I am indeed in the wedding. I can't mess around with a good friend's special day. Wish I could be there but not to be. I'll make my return to DSO shortly though! And I miss and love you all. Especially you tom banjo 😘
  15. When the wedding is in Puerto Rico, they take 5. Was so excited when I saw the announcement too. Haven’t seen DSO since the 2019/2020 New Years show. Haven been waiting and looking forward to getting into a real show environment. hoping more dates get announced shortly and I can get my ass out to a show.
  16. Correction. I will not be there. Wedding— not my own.
  17. I thought The Other One last night was some of the best music I’ve heard from DSO this year. Great stuff.
  18. Jam was about five minutes or so fun night. Love electives like this that keep you guessing. Different rhythm to the show and some rarely played songs. Double dose of Phil/Brent, double dose of pigpen, a few ballads, some Dylan.
  19. Like Topher, my first show was also at the Shea Auditorium is December of 2008, where I was also going to school at the time. I can still remember the first notes of Aiko Aiko that night and the feeling it gave me. Happy to see that nearly 11 years later, the band has only gotten better. Last night was superbly played but also a very short show. Show should have started at 7 if the curfew was 11. I'm familiar with the original show on paper but I don't know if there any (good) recordings out there so I was thrilled to hear DSO recreate this one. DITS, Morning Dew, and the whole second set smoked. Love that Tighten Up jam. I remember that being one of the highlights of NYE a few years ago. More of that please. Onto AC.

    Red bank 5/16

Highlight of the first set was deal. Fiery finish. Shakedown was a strong opener. They got into that repetitive groove (in a good way) with Eaton hitting that dissonant chord as an exclamation point. LIG also strong. Highlight of the second set was St. Stephen>Cosmic Charlie. Always like catching a rarity like that. China doll was sublime. And any time you close the night out with JGB, you’ve done right by me. Been to count basie a bunch. Pretty unremarkable theatre as far aesthetics go but sound is good. No pat down or anything and the staff inside is chill. Though they did have a few LEOs inside the building. It’s pretty much GA and you’re free to go wherever you want.

I haven’t seen any mention of three sets for tonight. 12/31/88 would certainly fit the bill as far as songs go.
