Nov. 5. The forthcoming movie showcases one of the Grateful Dead’s most iconic shows, from their Europe ‘72 tour, at Tivoli Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, on April 17, 1972. Grateful Dead Meet-Up captures the band’s ground-breaking concert broadcast event, which was the Dead’s initial major live concert broadcast and the first in Danish television history. The film has been fully restored, color corrected in high definition with audio mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffery Norman and mastered by David Glasser. The movie presents viewers with approximately 90 minutes of Grateful Dead music as they run through classics like “Chinacat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider,” “Big Railroad Blues,” “Truckin’,” and many more staples. Included are Jerry Garcia, Bobby Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Donna Jean Godchaux and Keith Godchaux. Moreover, the film also captures the band’s first live performance of “He’s Gone.” Additional highlights include “Ramble on Rose,” “Jack Straw” and “One More Saturday Night.” The tour also serves as the final run for Pigpen, who passed away on March 8, 1973, making the group’s rendition of “Hurts Me Too” all the more powerful. “We are pleased to be partnering again with Rhino to bring the ‘Meet-Up’ to cinemas around the globe,” said Kymberli Frueh, SVP for Programming and Content Acquisitions for Trafalgar Releasing. “The last ‘Meet-Up’ was the first with an international footprint and was a rousing success. Dark Star Orchestra celebrates their 25th Anniversary with a Fall Tour with stops in the Midwest and Northeast this Fall, including a special 25th Anniversary Performance at The Vic in Chicago! The tour kicks off with a show at First Avenue in Minneapolis on November 3, followed by two nights at Riverside Theater in Milwaukee on November 4 & 5. Then it's back where it all started, Chicago, for a very special show at The Vic on November 11, celebrating 25 years to the day of the first ever Dark Star Orchestra show! The tour rolls on with a stop at The Pageant in St. Louis on November 12, followed by two nights at The National in Richmond on November 17 & 18, and then The NorVa in Norfolk on November 19. The bus then heads north for shows at The Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE on November 20, XL Live in Harrisburg on November 22 and a stop at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA on November 23. The celebration wraps up with a two night run at The Paramount in Huntington, NY on November 25 & 26.

The film was produced and directed by San Francisco filmmaker Lonnie Frazier, who tells the story of a life-changing road trip that occurred in 1985, and the Grateful Dead community that uplifted her in a time of desperate need. Box of Rain recounts Frazier’s agonizing experience at the age of 17, which pushed the young woman into a state of suicidal contemplation amid a path of self-destruction and chaos after a scarring incident in her hometown. However, Frazier’s condition took a positive turn when a pal invited her on a weekend getaway at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., to see the Grateful Dead. The result of the concerts was a life-altering shift that gave Frazier a much-needed sense of community and resilience to keep moving forward. Frazier’s film is steeped in the healing power of music and explores the unique kinship of Deadheads while emphasizing the importance of friendship. All the while following the filmmaker’s experience in the eighties, which extends to modern times with the director returning to the fabled Colorado venue. Along the way, the film recounts stories and shares interviews that debunk common stereotypes about followers of the Grateful Dead community. In turn, Box of Rain focuses on the shared harmony of misfits in search of support and kinship.

Jerry’s genius changed my life. Not sure I would’ve taken the chances I did, travel to just about every state, and become great friends with total strangers. Every decision we make has a trade-off and a consequence. I have zero regrets about taking the magic carpet ride that was the Grateful Dead. Traveling far and near for the chance to see/hear Jerry channel the indescribable felt like exploring the final frontier. Thank you for that, Jerry. Thank you for helping make a large part of my life such a beautiful adventure!

BUT - The meat of this Playin in the Band is/was one of the very best since 1974 - IMHO, anyway. Give it a spin if you think that comment is hyperbole. Lastly, the sound is bleeping incredible! I’m not a true audiophile but I know it when I hear it

Did that Tinley run. Sound never got dialed-in - seemed to swirl all around the stadium. Also - the ride into that place was a nightmare. We had to abandon our car in traffic the first nite and then try to find it after the show. Not recommended after lapping up some puddles. The recordings sounded WAY better than I remembered
