  1. Last Wednesday saw JGB at the Hamilton in DC. Spent the first few songs super close to Melvin on the keyboard side, watching him spin the gospel, great stuff. Moved back for space of various size and location the rest of the evening. JK in fine form, such a natural pairing with Melvin. Cats, Goin' Down the Road first set standouts. Scarlet>Reuben a bouncy fun jump to the second. Perfect midweek escape. 25/03/26 JGB, Hamilton, Washington DC Second That Emotion, Wonderful World (Cooke), Evangeline, Mississippi Moon, Quinn the Eskimo, Cats Down Under the Stars>Drums>Goin' Down the Road, Let Me Roll It. Scarlet Begonias>Reuben and Cherise, Money Honey, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, No Women No Cry, Waiting for a Miracle, Midnight Moonlight, Sisters and Brothers, I Was Made To Love Her (Jam). Praise DSO.

  2. Rob, as a member of the American music and love community I want to say most of us DO understand your disposition! Hell we’re embarrassed by what this dickface is doing to all of our allies. The vast majority of Americans have and still love Canadians, even a large percentage of the people that elected the Orange Haired Jesus. Shit, many of us are thinking of moving there to escape the shame. I do, however want to encourage you to allow your love of the music and community to rise above the rhetoric of our socially and intellectually small leader. He wants division, and we say “fuck you”, we want to be together, and we will be together. If we alienate each other, that douchebag wins. Love will always be more powerful than hate. Love brings people together and hate drives them apart. Dictators rise and fall, but love has always remained. If our staying together goes against what our elitist narcissistic leaders are pushing, then good for us!! Now that, our Canadian brother, was harsh and political, haha. Love to you friend!!

  4. Hey all, This is Mik, of The Garcia Project. I've been lurking around the forums and thought I would drop in and say hello. Way back in 2002 (I think?) I was at The Gathering of the vibes and it was the first time I saw Melvin play with John K - as DSO was headlining....They did a Jerry Band set that brought me right back to the old days of Jerry Band tour. I was backstage and met Melvin that night but I also walked John from the stage to his trailer with his guitars. We chatted for a while and I told him that I thought he and Melvin sounded great and would love to hear more of it. He said he loved it too but was very busy with DSO...Then I quipped that I might have to start a "Jerry Band" to keep it going....He said Go for it! He was so kind and nice to talk to. And now he's back playing with Melvin! Love it! Since then, I met up with Kat Walkerson, who subbed in for Cheryl and sang with Shirley for a few shows with Melvin and JGB (Stu Allen was lead at that time). I had just started The Garcia Project (2010) and Kat joined the band for our second show and onward! We both loved how DSO did the GD sets lists and we started doing actual Jerry Band set lists with the same style, arrangement and feel of the original. We built the original gear and were gifted guitars from Andy Logan (Grateful Guitars Foundation) and since then we have played many shows with Melvin Seals, Jacklyn LaBranch, Maria Muldaur and Buzz Buchannon, covering sets from 1976 through 1995! Now in 2025, we have assembled the absolute best band and crew and are out touring again through the USA. We all absolutely love and miss Jerry and the experience that was a Jerry Garcia Band show. We strive to recreate that feeling at every show. We even have a couple of shows on our March tour with the one and only Jackie LaBranch! We love singing with her and her voice brings us right back..... I saw my first GD show back in 1987 at Silver Stadium in Rochester, NY - Right after the show my friend asked me what I thought...I said it was amazing, but what if Jerry sang every song??!! He said to me, Go see Jerry Band.....I sad WHAAAAAT??? There is a Jerry Band? And the following year I saw my first Jerry Band shows at Great Woods. Hooked ever since. Ive always missed that rich beautiful tone of his guitar playing and his soulful voice and presence, Anyway, we've done a lot over that last 15 years (including recording an album of Jerry Garcia spiritual songs called SPIRIT with Maria Muldaur, Jackie LaBranch, Peter Rowan, Jason Crosby and more....) --- and its our mission in life to continue on the musical legacy, keeping true to the original arrangements, feel and style that Jerry laid down from 1976-1995. I hope y'all will give us a shot if we play your neck of the woods and Im happy to answer any questions or tell any fun stories. We absolutely LOVE DSO and sometimes get to see them when our tours cross or we are on the same bill....Cotter has even run sound for a few times. Love the band, the community and the music! We would love to join y'all at the Jubilee or Jamaica some day.....Peace, love and music.... Mik

  7. That was uncanny. There are times in the movie when if you didn’t know it was a portrayal you’d swear it was Jim. Gary Busey as Buddy Holly is a close second. And who will be our huckleberry now? 🙁🙁

  8. Hey guys, I have seen The Garcia Project, I have even been in touch with them to try and get better venues for the area I am in. These guys are the DSO of JGB. They sound absolutely phenomenal. Many of yall know I do not know the music in terms so many of you do. My only measure of music is how it makes my body dance and the energy that runs through it. These guys are the real deal and no joke. They may not look it, but did GD every look it? Ron Jeremy Playing Drums, Daisy Duke playing rythm, so classical musicist, throwing love bombs that are still bouncing off the ocean floor. MiK would be worth someone getting to know. I am posting this cause I saw the thread.....and know what I am talking about with these guys. I would go on tour with them. Actually my next post....I may go on tour....I may run away. Sorry Mik its been a rough months. I usually can give better words. Im fading.........one more post These guys are the real deal......support them and you will be happy you did!

  9. Regarding Hyryder vs DSO on 5/17… Living here, in Newburgh, IN I am almost exactly half way between Covington and St Lou. Suffice to say I won’t be going upriver on the Ohio. Hyryder is my #2 though and based on last 3 years will see more of their shows than DSO in 2025.

  11. Dark Star used to play longer fillers. I remember one Electic factory show went until ten after two in the morning. Might have been their first show there. Not sure.

  12. I was also there, neat show. Hyryder in Indy April 4 and 5, should be rocking.

  13. I have zero hard evidence, but I “feel” like several of my early GD shows in 77 and 78 were slightly longer than the almost every night solid 3.5 to 4 hrs (depending when they hit the stage) you get with DSO. Of course there’s the GD shakedown which must be considered part of the show. The one part of the GD experience which for better or worse is not recreated at almost all DSO soirées.

  14. My one Radio City show, they played from 7:00 to 12:30 in the morning, obviously including set breaks.

  16. Dear DSO & Family Last year was my 7th Jubilee however very sadly I will be missing the Jubilee this year. In all good conscious I can not travel to a country that has a leader who continually threatens to take over my country. I will so so miss seeing my American Brothers and Sisters and sharing the music and love of our community. This breaks my heart. I am not sure Americans understand how devastating it is for Canadians to wake up one day and find out that a country you once thought stood for freedom and was your greatest friend is actually your greatest threat. I hope this all passes but in the mean time please consider visiting Canada again. I think it was over 10 years since you were last in Toronto. Sorry if this came as as harsh or too political for the forum but I thought you should know. Stay Kind Rob

  20. Just preordered and I feel a little dirty doing so to be honest, between already having all the music contained therein and the almost $700 after tax and shipping. That said, many shows will certainly be sonic upgrades to what already circulates. And hell, collectors gonna collect. 😁

  21. im coming up as soon as you are the 51st state and you stop killing us with fentanyl. Pretty sure that the number 1 industry in Saskatchewan is fentanyl and Trudeau gives the orders to poison Americans. What’s worse is they put powdered covid vaccine in it which is guaranteed to kill you. Measles vaccines and covid vaccines should be banned. Luckily Trump banned smallpox vaccines so my boy won’t be poisoned by sone fake disease no one’s ever seen. Is it like chicken pox but smaller? What’s this polio disease. I order polio at mexican restaurants all the time. I don’t get sick from it. It’s time for common sense to reign. To secure our future we need to take over France. Canada is a large glacier. It’s how we have bags of ice. It’s the main export after fentanyl and ice fishing.

  26. First post in something like 7 years. Forgive me in advance if I am out-of-bounds. Didn’t Ken Kesey and group eventually “graduate”? It’s been 40 years since I read Tom Wolf's book. Allow me to stick my neck out so you can chop it off. I experience that we will never remain in Terrapin as a constant state of being through L. Rather L provides a glimpse of what the Station is like – never permanent, just a glimpse that is dependent on the substance. After graduation I have nurtured those experiences with some other method that does not require anything external, but rather, comes from completely within ourselves. Forgive me, but I will now project me onto you. Like a Terrapin that retreats into its shell, as humans, I have discovered that I can turn the always-outward-facing senses and perceptions the other way, inward bound. For the last day since your post, I have imagined you discovering yoga, although I have never met you…..although maybe I danced in your circle at Hampton Beach. Like Starbucks, there is a studio on every corner. From what I know of you and Whitney, only through your writings, you guys have the modus operandi. Have you ever been to India where no substances are needed for the experience of Terrapin? Even that is not necessary (IMHO) but a fun trip. From your post, I know you have the ways and means. Your openness and writing skills are inspiring. Strangers stopping strangers. Frank
