  1. So, one week after my first Grateful Dead concert, I go back to college for my second year. My shroom mate has a friend who went to college in San Fran just so he could go to Dead shows. He calls my roommate to say Bill Graham bought the Warfield theatre so that the Dead could play there for two weeks straight. They’re playing acoustic sets, plus two electric sets to celebrate their fifteenth anniversary. With a few more phone calls over that time, we learn that every acoustic set is being closed with Ripple, and that they’re making a double acoustic and a double electric album from those shows. They asked everyone to not do too much hootin’ and hollerin’, as the shows were being recorded for the albums. We also learned that they were doing similar shows at Radio City. That got us cutting class and riding up to Radio City the Monday before Halloween. We ride into New York with his Buddy and try to scalp tickets. We get robbed by ‘scalpers’, and now we’re penniless outside of Radio City while our ride is inside the show. Pretty disappointed for about an hour when someone walks up to us wearing a ski mask and asks, ‘who wants to get snuck in?’ We tell him our hard luck story, and he says, ‘ stand right here, let me find three more people’. We end up walking right through the front doors of Radio City without a ticket. This guys neighbor was a ticket taker at the door. Once inside, we got free doses, red dragons two weeks old from Berkeley. Absolutely amazing night. Acoustic set was precious. Five and a half hour show. Life changing. That’s all, thanks for letting me share.

  2. Spirit of St Louis. - was family. My son loved Washington University. We saw a Westvalia ,though earlier model, as driving in to the college to our surprise. That was fun and made it seem a little homier. What a campus! That was quite the day excursion followed by some nice Peruvian cuisine near the hotel. Making our flight from home was the nail biter! Held on interstate at exit for 20 min at 5:40am. I just wonder - Where did Lindbergh learn to fly? 11/30/79 ——- well almost 1980. Filler : the Weight nice venue- not a bad spot in the house. Dancin was SO fun. Seemed early but that point after ETLY- gave me a pause. Beautiful Peggy O. Cassidy El Paso. Lost Sailor / saint was it for me. Not a bad guess, hope especially nice surprise out of drumz. ⚓️ Great Bowling alley close by.

  3. Nothing. But Cassidy was in the show the next night, so we switched it out. The biggest differences were minimal keyboard rig, minimal drums and having Lisa sing

  4. I had no clue the dead ever brought big boy Pete out in the 80s. I learn something every day. Last night I learned that no exercise for 6 weeks then hard exercise will make your calves so stiff you literally walk like a pirate with a peg leg. Edit: I had to modify my dance. Now I don’t let my heels touch the ground and stay on my toes. My feet feel good today but my calves are like wtf was that last night. In 4-5 days they should be good lol. What a drag it is getting old. Duh nuh nuh. Fuck it. This is what I love and I’ll do it until the wheels fall off. Wonder if I can pick up more shows on this run. I’m jonesing already.

  6. We skipped 10/4 last year when we were lighting this candle... How’s about 10/4/80? If you like Reckoning and Dead Set, you’re in bidness here. And if you’re reading this, you like Reckoning and Dead Set. May want to pack a lunch for this one. https://archive.org/details/gd80-10-04.sbd.blanchard.14989.sbeok.shnf

  7. Hey, in fairness to that fool in the bathroom maybe he was at the '85 Kaiser show where The Dead played Big Boy Pete. Can't help him with Golden Road, Doin' That Rag, or Alligator though.

  8. At set break a guy in the bathroom assured me this was a 1980’s set list. He’s like they will open 2nd set with hell in a bucket. Always get a good chuckle in the bathroom at setbreaks. The audience was confused at times but really energetic. Took several home town friends up there and there was a convo about did dead ever play heavy metal. Last night at many times, I’d consider that heavy metal music. At least for 69, it was as heavy metal as there was at points in that second set. The really intense, loud, feedback points made the crowd frenzied and people were looking around with huge smiles thinking are you believing this. My new dead buddy heard a style he’d never heard and loved it. Hearing a 69 on cd vs live is a completely different animal. They played loud. And I had the audacity to bash the Mercury ballrooms sound. This time though we were middle up close and it sounded phenomenal. Dancing upstairs dodnt hsve the sound even though this year they didn’t let us upstairs unless you paid an extra $30. So glad they didn’t let us up there because the sound was down low. I thought they were going into caution 2x. I even wrote down caution at one point then had to erase it realizing it was stilll Jan from the song. Outstanding. The funny thing was early on the gf, now understanding eras to an extent, was praying for an eleven nonstop as it’s her fav current song to Dance to. I’m like it will probably be followed by a Stephen so the second they started Stephen it was on. I was so fatigued but not in any pain. That’s reallu good news. Only doing 2 Midwest shows seems sinful. Next year will be my year!! But I did get that one. That was a doozy. I think I’m on a roll of like 6 of the last 8 69’s or something close to that.

  9. The key with DSO as with the Dead is that you have to go on a 3-4 show run to get your fill (more if possible). I have found if you hit 5-6 you will get most eras covered with a couple electives sprinkled in and very few repeats.
