  1. My primary motive for going to a DSO show is to hear Grateful Dead music played live with fucking stellar execution. I really don't care recr or not, preannoun or not, damn rain or shine, DSO is going to plug a hole in my soul no matter what. I'm not going to shows because of what they do, I'm going because of how they do what they do. It's necessary. Thanks.

  2. The discussion topic that never goes away. I am solidly in the recreation camp, and always have been, so I get Ben's point. By far the best DSO shows I have seen have been recreations. But then again at this point in their long journey I think my opinion may very well be in the minority. The biggest single upside to electives imho is you get to hear relatively obscure rollouts like World To Give more often than you ever did with the Dead. And a shout out to Visions which is one of the greatest songs ever written, and again something you hear more often because of elective shows.

  3. The latest I’ve seen Dso start a show was at 8:20 for an 8pm show. It was a sold out show where security was having a hard time getting people in. But I’ve also seen sold out shows with hundreds in line outside start right on time. My 1st Dso show ever was at the Vic Chicago and I was shocked that they started right at 8. What band starts at showtime was my thought? My gf at the time at the start of encore 2 of 3 said are they ever going to stop? We had to leave to catch our train and missed the last song. I was in heaven. She was in hell. Needless to say we didn’t last 6 more months and I needed warmer weather.

  4. that's what i was thinking, that they will start early enough to cover the full experience while still having an intermission. the doors say 7pm, so i'm thinking it's an 8pm show- thank you!

  5. If it’s an 8pm show expect them to start b/t 7:58 and 8:15. On shows that will take a while to recreate I’ve seen them go on before start time. Dso is prompt as they want to give fans as close to a 4 hour show as possible and I’ve seen a 4:15 show before. Don’t be late or you will miss songs

  8. Yes, what a coincidence, that. Let's not tell the people I came to visit that they were secondary to the tour schedule.
